Awarded 4 competition points via another forfeit on the weekend, the Inverell Saints now sit four games clear of its nearest rival the Muswellbrook Cats who have now lost their last three matches and are looking shaky to hold onto second spot on the ladder.
The Nomads and Kangaroos are starting to gain momentum and look likely to bolster their finals aspirations and position on the ladder in the coming weeks.
I'd like to acknowledge the efforts of Coach Dick Gleeson, support staff and everyone who's worn the Saints Guernsey this year. To win the minor premiership in the fashion we have takes an abundance of hard work and dedication to the cause which has been evident this season. But this acknowledgement doesn't mean we're thinking everything's over bar the shouting in respect to winning the premiership, far from it.
The next month will be a test for the Club with games against the two Tamworth teams and the New England Nomads. Having had a less than perfect preparation for the upcoming games, its imperative each player prepare for the battles ahead. We need to make training compulsory for every player, to allow for the best preparation leading towards the finals series. Players thinking they're guaranteed positions in the team need a reality check. No ones position in the team is safe. If you're prepared to do the hard work on the training track and do the team things, you'll be selected. It's as simple as that.
An individual doesn't win you games and premierships but a team of individuals who are willing to work together for the benefit of the team will win you the spoils. That's what we will be endeavoring to do in the weeks ahead.
So until the fat lady starts to belt out a tune, it will be a case of heads down, bums up for the Inverell Saints. Don't let this opportunity go to waste.
