Simply the Saints haven't hit their straps after the mid season break and that would be a concern for Coach Dick Gleeson. After a stern spray at half time in the Gunnedah game, the boys started to resemble the side which currently leads the competition. The strong running game was more evident as they took control of the game.
Today begins the start of a big three weeks for the Club when they tackle the improved Tamworth Kangaroos.
The danger players include Dan Overeem, Geordie Akeroyd, and Cameron Douglas who can all win games off their boots and it's up to the Saints to keep them quiet.
Look for Stewart Walker to again dominate at centre half forward while the elusive Alex Walker will be out to swoop on the loose ball and create goal scoring opportunities.
The competition leaders will need to run the Kangaroos ragged and dominate from the opening bounce. Jason Gobbert's combination with Gary Hadland at the centre bounce is starting to blossom while Joe Kimmince is developing into a very handy full back.
The Saints will welcome back Bruce Wall and Johnno Elphick back into the side this afternoon, the latter coming back after a 6 week break following a thumb injury.
This match promises to be a close battle with both teams keen to gain an advantage over the other as we get close to the business end of the season.
Inverell has more avenues to goal and that's why I think they'll get the points today but never underestimate the Roos. Once they poke their noses in front, they're very hard to peg back.
For the Saints, it simply comes down to how hungry they are for continued success this year. That means more running, more discipline and more vigor similar to the first part of the season. Recapture that form and god help the opposing team.
We must focus on the job at hand each week and each team before we can contemplate finals football- We've got to get there first. IT HAS TO BE EARNED
Saints- it's SHOW TIME
PREDICTION : In a much improved effort, the Saints should prevail by 47 points
