The Inverell Saints
will kick off their 2010 campaign at Armidale this weekend at the annual
Tablelands Cup. The New England
Nomads host the pre season competition that is in its 4 year of operation and
involves clubs from across northern NSW.
The competition has
proven successful for the Saints in the past 2 seasons, with a win in 2008 and
a runner up finish in 2009 and despite taking an under strength line up this
weekend, they remain confident of putting up a solid performance. The Saints will face the hosts first up
on Saturday, before facing fellow TAFL combatants and 2009 Premiers, the
Tamworth Swans. The Saints will
round out Saturday’s games when they play the Nambucca Heads Lions, before
facing Norths Coffs Harbour on Sunday morning. Regardless of results, the Saints will play one more finals
game on Sunday before heading home.
The Saints will look
to the usual suspects this weekend with Joe Kimmince, Jono Elphick and Gary
Hadland all hitting the training ground hard. The Saints will welcome back Luke Selig from Gunnedah and
Jason Gobbert has returned from retirement and both will be huge inclusions for
the Saints in 2010.
As always, the weekend
promises to be a great hit out for the Saints as they gear up for the start of
the season on April 17th when they play host to the returned
Narrabri Eagles who are putting a team back into the TAFL for the first time in
3 seasons.
