THE HISTORY OF THE SEACOMBE TIGERS SOFTBALL CLUB

The Seacombe Softball Club was first known as the "Oakland Tigers Softball Club" and was formed in 1960. The first Annual General Meeting was held at the Warradale Institute at which the late Mr. Jim Burridge was elected President and Mrs. Lorna Burridge as Secretary.
The Oakland Primary School grounds were used both for training sessions and competition matches. The one provision for the use of the grounds were their watering at weekends and during school holidays. These duties were carried out by the Burridge Family and committee member Jim Davidson. 

The Club was accepted by the South Australian Softball Association and was given permission to wear black and gold colours. These are still the club colours. Two teams were fielded in the inaugural year taking out the premiership in 'D" Grade and runner up in the "F" Grade.

For the 1970-71 season the Softball Association decided to allot clubs areas, our zone became the area between Sturt Road at Brighton, Majors Road at O"Halloran Hill, and Bellevue Drive at Bedford Park. 

It was decided that, because of the allocation of the areas the Seacombe High School became our training venue, and to change the name of the club to the Seacombe Softball Club. In 1985 the South Australian Softball Association extended Seacombe's zone to take in the Happy Valley, Aberfoyle Park and Flagstaff Hill areas. 

Seacombe High School continued to be the clubs training venue until 1990, when the Club obtained the Brighton Football and Cricket Club complex as its facilities. Seacombe continued to use these facilities until the completion of the 1993-94 season when it was successful in acquiring new club and training facilities at the Happy Valley Oval , as part of the Happy Valley Sports and Social Club and where we are currently based.
