Pines Club Notes Round One. Pines v Mt Eliza 16 April 2011.
Let’s spin the wheel again to see how we go this season in 2011, our 48th season of active service and with 36 prem flags proudly a-flowing we look to add to the Snrs 6, Res 15, Thrds 10, Frths 5 gained since 1964. Neil Tedge continues as president, Terry Bashford holds the bag as treasurer and Leanne Morse has taken on the secretarial duties. Gary Connolly in his second year as senior coach is straining at the bit to improve on last year and he will. Paul Wilson, an assistant to Gary last year, takes on our reserves coaching and his experience at Doveton, Doveton Eagles and Lyndale holds him in good stead. Jason Morse bravely continues on as thirds coach and looks now to have quite a number of players available for his team. Welcome to our new lads and their parents. Great to see a Pines Netball team(s) in the comp this year. Not a lot of info about the girls yet but it will come. Some may recall that the seeds for the creation of such a team were sown in this column during last year. Good luck girls. The Past Players Group sees some older inaugural chaps standing down from their leader positions to allow younger past players to take on the duties. The main purpose of this group is to keep all past players together helping the club and supporting our teams. Not a lot known about our new recruits yet and we look to them to throw some tinder on to the smouldering ashes of last year. Guy Hendry sidled up t’other day, he’s gotta be 7 foot tall and I’m sure he’ll be watching his dad Gordo play in his 408th club game in his 26th season for us today. Welcome to the Mt Eliza club visiting us today and it’s about time that we improved on our record against them from over the last years. Going over now to get a pizza from Il Castello Pizza Café just across the road in the old Pines newsagency. Show your membership card for club discount and extra toppings. Support our sponsors.
