Day 3: Late start to the morning after being kept awake most of the night by those pesky locals. Woody is wearing his netball t-shirt for the third day straight and Cleaver is still having trouble with his hammie, I do hope he gets over it soon. Someone said that he should give Wagga a call apparently he has a sure fire remedy.
During breakfast we are interrupted by a thin young sunburnt man with denim shorts and a nobbly nose...yes that's right good old Patty B from Dubbo has made the trip up to catch up with his old buddy Stimpy. He has a bit of time off with school holidays and couldn't wait to catch up with his old pal. Bad news for PB is that Stimpy doesn't arrive until this arvo, never mind.
We polish off brekkie and get onto lathering Patty B with sunscreen, Bottles cries foul after we use his 50+ without asking and as you can see we are starting to get a little weary of each other after what has been a couple of crazy days.
We spot Hopey across the road at the fruit shop, it turns out to be a rockmelon, oh well maybe he'll be here by tomorrow.
New local Hammer is our tour guide for the day and what a top day he has planned for us. First port of call the South Bank Village Markets to pick up some nick-knacks and local produce. Its then of to visit the Mt Cootha Lookout and Botanic Gardens. Hammer explains how they are Queensland's leading heritage park and then takes us to the Curator's Cottage which is now the garden's cafe! We all enjoy some divine open bagels and freshly squeezed pineapple juice - well as they say when in Rome.
We spend the next couple of hours down at Parliament House. It really is a grand old building, built in 1868 and inspired by the Louvre Museum in Paris. Boy does that Hammer know his stuff. The boys have really enjoyed their afternoon but are now keen to leave the Fossil mystery tour behind and go and watch the Preliminary Final in the AFL.
It turns out Hammer's place is only two blocks away so we all head over to watch the big game on his 34-cm KONKA Colour TV. It's all the ginger beer and cheezels you can eat as the boys' watch the Eagles get over the Crows in a thriller at AAMI Park.
After a long day in the sun Patty B is looking as bright as a beetroot but luckily for him Stimpy has finally arrived so he should be right now being able to walk around in his shadow at all times.
We decide to lash out, being a Saturday night and all and all chip in a couple of bucks (except Buckets) to buy a slab of Mid-Strength. Deedy is put in charge of collecting the slab whilst Munners looks after dinner - pizzas and garlic bread - wow, how I love Saturday nights.
The pizzas are a real hit and some girls even come over and talk to us. They have a fair bit of pizza and a couple of beers and then leave - strange really but Tubs got some phone numbers which we promise to call later - once we polish off the slab.
A couple of hours pass and we decide to play the square of near death. The game doesn't last real long as we only have 4 cans left and we are saving three of those for Burnsy who is apparently due up in the pano any minute now. We give him another hour and then drink the remaining warm mid-strengths.
After a couple of cans each, far too much pizza and a long day seeing the sights everyone is pretty pooped so its off to bed for this bunch of crazy revellers.
Tomorrow should be a beauty, what with Stimpy and PB now here, Welcome Back and Burnsy apparently pretty close and Jimmy just turning up I can barely wait for what tomorrow brings. Australian Idol is on as well...oh boy..well bye for now. Oh yeah and Tubs did try the girls phone number, apparently one too many digits, never mind.
Day 2: We awake fresh as daisy around 7.00am to the smiling face of Tubs with the Premiership Cup in one hand and a stubby glove in the other - starting to think he slept with them both.
Cleaver is looking a little worse for wear - apparently a kebab related hamstring injury from last night's dinner. We all meet in Fluffy's room to plan the day's activities. Some cups of tea on the balcony and some divine carrot cake that Mrs Enright sent up for us (you know to make sure Matty ate something for the weekend).
We think we spot Hopey down by the pool, it turns out to be a lap swimmer with a beige swimming cap - oh well maybe Muzza will be here tomorrow.
Meanwhile Burnsy and Welcome Back have apparently made it as far as Coffs Harbour with their arrival imminent - apparently the pano is purring like a kitten.
Check the local paper and see that there is a huge cross-stitch and teddy bear fair on at the race track - no time to dilly dally where are all off in a flash to catch a bus (Smithy wasn't driving thankfully).
A great fair from all accounts, Bottles says he has all his Christmas shopping under control now and his dad is going to have kittens over the Winnie the Pooh doll with vest and hat he picked up for a steal.
Lunch and its onto the food court for a bit of everything. Cleaver sits this one out - apparently the hammies are still a little dodgy.
Spend the arvo by the pool sipping on mocktails, Tubs drinks them from the Premiership cup...again and Wheels nearly gets us thrown out for horseplay near the deep end.
Everyone is exhausted after a long arvo in the sun so we make our way downstairs to the restaurant for a BBQ by the pool. Apparently its all part of the awesome deal we struck - free sausages. bread, sauce and onion! Boy can that Jimbob really drive a hard bargain.
The footy is on in both codes so most of the boys watch the Swans beat the Dockers while Wheeler and Hammer take in the Broncos beating the Doggies.
Late to bed with the footy and all and we all get kept awake from the locals cheering and tooting their horns for the Broncos. Not much sleep damn yobbos - well another day awaits, Stimpy is nearly here, Jimmy is on his way and Burnsy and Welcome Back can't be too far off. Until tomorrow cheers ya'll.....
Day 1: Flight from Williamtown to Bris Vegas - We take off and think we spot Hopey out the window, on second glance it's a motorbike rider with a beige helmet. Do however spot Clarkey over at the RAAF Base - he's sculling drinks for gold coin donations, as usual.
Flight is fairly routine - just the usual mile high club and a couple of dozen scotches from the mini bar. Not too sure what the other passengers are looking at you think they had never had a drink before...well it is the 9.00am flight I suppose.
Buckets is in fine form telling the story about the night he bought everyone a beer, he has definitely been drinking. Bottles is trying some moves on the flight attendants with his usual success rate and Wheels has managed to talk himself into a spot in the cabin for the descent. Where all doomed!
Land in QLD and the weather is oh so fine, fist move Hammers House. Nancy looks particularly pleased to see us especially with scotch on our breath. With the fossil sorted it's on to the Hotel. It's a mad scramble to top and tail with Fluffy Wilmott. Buckets wins, lucky bugger.
Next port of call the local municipal library for a spot of research, boy can that Duggo speed read. After some light reading and a quick nap it's onto the local bowling club for a few "ends" as the local say. Duggo cleans up with his timeless experience and everyone wonders just how much Harro the super-fossil would have really cleaned up on the rink.
Next stop the RSL for a spot of Keno and some light beer shandies. Deedy is slamming them down like there's no tomorrow and with his new buzzed hair-do has some of the single mothers in rapturous with his charm and wit around by the 2c pokies.
So by now it about 7.00pm and Buckets stomach is telling everyone its dinner time. Off to a lovely ala carte restaurant for dinner with some veal, roasted chats and a glass of cockfighters ghost it tops off a really lovely first day.
It's off to bed at around 9.30pm but not before some brandy alexanders and an extra large slice of tiramisu.
Well what a crazy old day that was, stay tuned for Day 2 with news that Jimmy is on his way up, Stimpy will be coming around Sunday and Burnsy and Welcome Back have just been given spousal leave passes and will be driving up in the new pano any minute now.
Talk about your crazy days...
