In remarkably similar circumstances to the Premiership winning 2006 season the Newcastle City Blues have staged a superb second half comeback to overrun Minor Premiers Gosford to reach their second Grand Final in as many years.
For a side that sat in 9th position after Round 5 with no wins on the board the boys have worked their way steadily into the season and seemingly peaking at the perfect time of the year. The side suffered early in the year with limited numbers and as predicted have been a real force in the competition once a full compliment of players became available.
City's dream finals run continued with the 16's getting up in emphatic fashion over Cardiff on Friday night, and the players who backed up for the 18's showing no signs of slowing down in a second half comeback against Gosford at Adelaide St on Saturday.
City started the game slowly, but had a good second quarter which they were unable to translate onto the scoreboard.
The second half was a different story with Cameron Keast continuing to dominate in the ruck, Hainesy winning ball all over the park, Tyson Jolly showing plenty of composure under pressure, Josh Nesbitt having a blinder and Kris Wozniak as always keeping things under control in the backline.
The boys have booked themselves a date with Lake Macquarie in the big match and should be full of confidence after a great run home.
Full credit to Steve and Woody who are extremely committed to the side, and along with their players deserve the ultimate reward today.
City are looking to go back to back and special mention to Kris Wozniak who will be playing for his 4th consecutive Under 18's Premiership on Saturday.
