Newcastle City have continued their unbeaten run to eight matches in the Black Diamond Cup with a dominant 156-point win over the Gosford Tigers at No.1 Sportsground. In earlier matches the Under 18's went down by 54-points in the their Grand Final re-match with the Tigers and in First Division the Blues were able to record an impressive 108-point win.
The Black Diamond Cup game was a fairly open and free flowing affair with the Blues forward line having too much firepower for the Tigers with Courtney Knight kicking another ten to take his season tally to 63, enigmatic utility Shannon Burke popped up to kicked five and Dave Woerner and Anthony Stewart kicked two each.
Mitchell Knight had a great game on the ball setting up many of the Blues scoring opportunities and with Tom Hunt and Luke Rawnsley leading the way in the backline the Blues were able to restrict the Tigers to 2-goals for the match and only one point after half time.
The Blues will now enjoy a week-off for the representative match before squaring off with the Nelson Bay Marlins at Burwell Oval in two weeks time.
The First Division side scored a commanding win over the Tigers with new recruit Daryl Anesbury kicking four goals along with Clarke Sturman and Hayden Kavanagh who kicked three each. Alex Beath and Scott Harrington were best afield for the Blues.
The Under 18's went down after a slow start with only goal on the board at half time. The Blues lifted their game in the second half and were able to match the Tigers with five goals being scored by both sides. Kris Wozniak was again in great touch for the Blues and continues to be a thorn in the Tigers side. Some of the new recruits again played well and in a mystifying piece of fixturing will again face Gosford in Round 10 this time in Gosford, while the other sides travel to Nelson Bay.
