Newcastle City recorded its fourth win of the season, coming from behind to defeat the Gosford Tigers by thirteen points at Adcock Park on Saturday.
The Blues trailed by 33 points at half time, but rallied late and hit the lead with five minutes to go when Courtney Knight slammed home his seventh goal for the day.
Playing with one man down for most of the second quarter and the entire second half after a dubious red-card decision against Tim Cotter, the Blues were under the pump all day in a gutsy come from behind victory.
The Tigers came out of the blocks on fire in the first quarter kicking the first four goals before the Blues has even scored.
Holding a three goal lead at quarter time and extending out to just over five goals at half time a Courtney Knight and Michael Kemp lead resurrection saw the Blues within striking reach at three quarter time.
A mammoth six goal to two last quarter with a man down was the stuff of "fairy-tales" as the Coach put it and one to remember for the supporters who made the journey down to Gosford.
A very even team effort for the Blues with Courtney Knight and Michael Kemp leading the way with twelve goals between them. L. Rawnsley was his rugged best in the middle of the ground, Mitch Knight again played well all over the ground and Matty Enright and Mitch Niland held down the fort in defence admirably all day.
Over at Teralba the First Division side managed to get over the line by 23 points in a rugged affair against the Lake Macquarie Crows. J. Judge was awarded the best on ground with Mick Deed kicking another five goals to continue his great form with B.K, young gun Michael Atkinson, Danny Mitchell and G. Ratcliffe amongst the best players. Tubs managed to slot a couple of nice goals, with a third apparently attributed to a team mate. Word is Tubs will be seeking to have the goal put back onto his tally in the near future.
In the Under 18's first game back after an extended break there were able to complete a comfortable 46 point victory against an improving Lake Macquarie outfit.
Michael Atkinson played a great game as did the ever reliable Tom Morey. Nathan and Josh Childs team well together and a nice first game back from Danny Mitchell and new recruit Kris Wozniak. Hayden Kavanagh slotted home four goals to lead all goals scorers.
We now look forward to a huge home game at No.1 Sportsground with a full day of activities planned for out first Mega Day of the Year.
The major purpose of the day is to raise funds for the clubs chosen charities, The Cancer Council and The Starlight Children's Foundation. Senior and Junior clubs will be participating throughout the day, starting with the Under 10's and culminating in a Black Diamond Cup match under lights starting at 6.00pm. Activities will include raffles, jumping castles, face painting and much much more.
