Codes of Behaviour

PARENT CODE OF BEHAVIOUR:

I will abide by the club's "Parent Code of Behaviour" of:

  1. Being a positive role model for the club. Being aware of how I act and what I say about our club, the coaches, managers and committee. Bringing my concerns to the club to be addressed.
  2. Always communicating with our club coaches, managers and committee in a respectful, appropriate and constructive manner.
  3. Supporting the club coaches and managers and respecting their decisions. Not instructing my child, or any other child, in training or games or approaching the players’ bench during games.
  4. Respecting the referees and court officials. Not arguing with referees or court officials to ensure that the team cannot be held responsible for my actions under the BACT’s Competition Rules and By-Laws. [Refer to the Club Complaints Policy - Complaints - Tuggeranong Southern Cross - SportsTG]
  5. Supporting my child to enjoy and have fun playing basketball. Praising, encouraging and supporting my child to make their own decisions in games and training on the direction of their coach. I will not pressure my child about winning or losing.
  6. Undertaking my turn at score bench duties during the season and in doing so, remaining impartial and not disagreeing with the referees.
  7. Ensuring that my child understands and abides by the club's Player Code of Behaviour.

PLAYER CODE OF BEHAVIOUR:

I will represent the club’s values when taking the court by:

  1. Playing by the rules.
  2. Treating players in my team, my club and on the opposition, as I would like to be treated. Not interfering with, bullying or taking unfair advantage of another player.
  3. Co-operating with my coach, team mates and opponents.  Without them there would be no competition.
  4. Never arguing with a referee or court official.  If I disagree with a decision, I will speak to my coach or manager instead.
  5. Controlling my temper.  Abusing officials or other players, deliberately distracting or provoking an opponent is not acceptable in any sport.
  6. Being a good sport.  Applauding all good plays whether by my team or the opposition.
  7. Working equally hard for myself and my team.  The team's performance will benefit and so will mine.
  8. Playing for the fun of it, not just to please parents or coaches or just to win.

VOLUNTEER CODE OF BEHAVIOUR

This code of behaviour is underpinned by the following core values of Basketball Australia and applies to all club volunteers, including the Committee, Coordinators, Coaches, Managers and all other volunteers working within and for the Tuggeranong Southern Cross Basketball Club.

“• To act within the rules and spirit of our sport.

• To display respect and courtesy towards everyone involved in our sport and prevent discrimination and harassment.

• To prioritise the safety and well-being of children and young people involved in our sport.

• To encourage and support opportunities for participation in all aspects of our sport.”

(Basketball Australia, Member Protection Policy, 18 June 2018)

As a volunteer of the Tuggeranong Southern Cross (TSC) Basketball Club, I will:

  1. As a club representative, adhere to Basketball ACT’s and the club’s constitutions, by-laws, rules and policies.
  2. Promote, encourage and foster the sport of basketball in accordance with the club’s objectives.
  3. Be a positive role model for the club. Do not denigrate in any way our club, the players, its members and other volunteers (including the coaches, managers and the committee).
  4. Always communicate with our players, members and other volunteers (club coaches, managers and committee) in a respectful, appropriate and constructive manner.
  5. Make a commitment to the club and provide service to our players and members by:
    • Committee - Seeking continual improvement in the performance of the club. Ensuring equipment and facilities meet safety standards; and ensuring equipment, rules and the environment are appropriate for the age and ability of the players. Ensuring that any equipment and training schedules are modified to suit the age, ability and maturity level of young players. Providing quality supervision and instruction for junior players. Helping coaches highlight appropriate behaviour and skill development, and helping to improve the standards of coaching.
    • Coaches - Seeking continual development and improvement in my performance and providing a training program which is planned and sequential. Providing each player with equal attention and opportunities; respecting the talent, developmental stage and goals of each individual player; and helping each player reach his or her full potential. Showing concern and caution towards sick and injured athletes by providing a modified training program where appropriate; allowing further participation in training and competition only when appropriate; seeking medical advice when required; and maintaining the same interest and support towards sick and injured players.
  1. Be fair, considerate, transparent and honest with all members of the club (including players, parents and other volunteers), BACT officials and representatives of other clubs. Give proper regard for their rights and obligations and in particular, respecting the spirit of fair play and non-violence. Not denigrate and/or intimidate players, officials, spectators or event organisers. Encourage our players to demonstrate the same behaviour.
  2. Not cause harm to any young person and respect the rights, dignity and worth of every young person regardless of their gender, ability, cultural background or religion. Acknowledge that not doing so in any way is unacceptable and will result in disciplinary action by the club.
  3. Be alert to and respond appropriately to any conduct which may be reasonably regarded as abuse, harassment or discrimination that is directed towards players from other sources whilst they are in my care.
  4. Refrain from any form of abuse, harassment or discrimination, or any conduct which might reasonably be regarded as abuse, harassment or discrimination towards any others.
  5. Ensure that any physical contact with players is appropriate for the situation and necessary for the player's skill development. Avoid unaccompanied and unobserved activities with players and refrain from entering player change rooms.
  6. Keep my working with vulnerable people (WWVP) card current and provide an electronic copy of both sides of the card to the club. Also advise the club of any changes to its terms or conditions.
