The aim for 2014 was to reach finals but unfortunately we fell short of this goal. Despite missing out on finals action, it was a rewarding and enjoyable season coaching the 'ressies' with a great bunch of blokes who gave their all week in week out.
Finishing 5th in most seasons with 10 wins would normally reward teams with a finals berth but with a top 4 rather than top 5 we missed that opportunity. The pleasing aspect was not losing a game to the bottom 5, but that elusive victory against the top 4 never eventuated.
I did have great pride in seeing young players such as Rhys Spooner, Paul Jones, Lee Wright and Trent Fennel all take the next step in playing regular Senior footy and I hope these guys continue to improve and develop into very good Senior players. I have no doubt the likes of Damian Nelson, Michael Bonfadini, Aaron Lamonica and Daniel Wells all have the potential to follow these guys and become important Senior players in the future.
Then there's the older brigade who I can't thank enough for their efforts this year, led by our co-captains in Adam Robert and Luke Palmer, as well as Shane Rowe who was a great leader on the ground. The return of Justin Cuzzupi and Tony Ripepi was also a huge bonus for the team.
I can't mention every player in my report but I have the utmost respect for every bloke who takes the field and wears the Silvan jumper with pride.
Along with the players I'd like to thank all the support staff, trainers, runners, boundary and goal umpires, timekeepers for your help this year. Your work and support doesn't go unnoticed and I sincerely thank you all.
To Chris and the entire committee, thanks once again for your support through the year and for giving me the opportunity to again coach this group. It has been very enjoyable and satisfying so without being reappointed by the committee I wouldn't have had the chance to do so.
The appointment of Chris 'Dogga' Murphy as senior coach not only gave me new ideas and philosophies about the game but I have enjoyed working with a champion bloke and someone I will be mates for life with, as was the case with Goody. Thanks to both of you blokes, it's been great working alongside you the past 2 years.
Finally to my great mate and cousin who we've been through our whole footy careers together, Camma - I couldn't have done the job without you. Your knowledge of the opposition and game in general is second to none and I know I only had the title as coach as I'd completed a level 1 coaching course. Other than that you were just as much the coach as I was and the brains behind it all.
I'm looking forward to another tough season as we enter the unknown of 3rd division and my thoughts on reserves footy will not waiver. I'll do the best I can to develop players and encourage them to go the next step and play Senior footy. Most importantly and you have all seen it on the whiteboard every week, ENJOY & DISCIPLINE are my main mottos, so let's take on 2015 and be the best players we can be.
Cheers
Reserves Coach
