Breakers, Melngoes score win in IP&E ABL

Teams Breakers and Melngoes breezed past separate foes Friday night in the ongoing IP&E Amateur Basketball League (ABL) at the Palau National gym.

The Breakers used a third quarter assault enough to fuel them to beat the Ngiwal 79ers, 88-74. Down 35-37 at the end of the first half, the Breakers anchored a 29-14 run in the third quarter as they took the lead at 66-49.

From there, the Breakers would stand their ground as they went on to win the game. Yutaka Gibbons Jr. led the way for the Breakers with 19 as teammates Erwin and Henaro chipped in 13 and 12 baskets, respectively while Carson and Hoakin topscored for Ngiwal 79ers with identical 19 markers on the losing cause.

On the other hand, Melngoes showed balance scoring as they beat the Ididers, 78-56. After taking a 21-13 lead Melngoes outscored the Ididers as they closed the first half with a 38-27 lead.

From there, Melngoes met little resistance as they sailed away with the win. Edward Baysa and Lipsman Taisican finished the game with identical 15 points while Kyoshi Ngwal and Madaob Mersai led the charge for Ididers with 14 and 13 baskets, in that order.

In other games, Meda Boys bested PCC Mesekiu, 70-61; Ngermid Rivals won over Papago Smooth, 90-67; and Hanpa Cardinals drubbed the Blue Sharks, 116-91.

Games resume tonight with Ikelauans versus Neco Marine Stingers at 6 p.m. followed by the Blue Sharks-Ngaraard Red Torch match at 7:30 p.m. while Idid 4x4 Wheelers will face Matakui at 9 p.m.

Wednesday night matches will have Breakers against Meda Boyz at 6 p.m. as Ngerkesoal Styx will meet Papago Smooth at 7:30 p.m. while PCC Mesekiu will face Lawmen PEAC at 9 p.m.

Thursday night games will feature Ngermid Rivals taking on Ranchers at 6 p.m. followed by the Ngiwal 79ers-Ikelauans match at 7:30 p.m. while Ididers will meet the Hanpa Cardinals in the night cap at 9 p.m.

Teams this season, teams are divided into two pools. Pool A will have Papago Smooth, Ngarchelong Blue Shark, Ngaraard Red Torch, Hanpa Cardinals, Surangel Kings, Meyuns Red Storm, Melngoes, Ranchers, Ididers and Ngermid Rivals. Pool B will be composed of MEDA Boys, Matakui, Idid 4x4 Wheelers, Ikelauans, Stingers, Lawmen PEAC, Raw Surf, Breakers, Airwaves and PCC Mesekiu.
