Ngaraard Red Torch nails second win in IP&E ABL

Team Ngaraard Red Torch is on a row as they nailed their second straight victory after beating Papago Smooth, 73-58 Friday night in the ongoing 2013-14 season of the IP&E Amateur Basketball League (ABL) at the Palau National gym.

After a slow start, the Red Torch managed to seal the first quarter with a 13-11 lead and then outscored Papago Smooth in the second with a 20-8 run to close the first half with a 33-19 advantage.

After that, it was all Red Torch down to the final canto as they sealed the win with Douglas Schmidt leading the way with 21 while teammate Anthony Rudimch chipped in 20 markers.

On the other hand, Anthony Ngirkelau and Rob Saunders topscored for Papago Smooth with identical 20 baskets on the losing end.

In other games, Neco Marine Stingers beat Matakui, 68-66; Medalaii Med Boys won over Idid 4x4 Wheelers, 79-73; PCC Mesekiu defeated Ngiwal 79ers, 85-61; Ngermid Rivals down Ididers, 96-42; Breakers bested Raw Surf, 77-59; Meyuns Red Storm fends off Melengoes, 77-72; Lawmen PEAC outscored Neco Marine Stingers, 74-67.

Games will resume tonight with Lawmen PEAC versus Airwaves at 6 p.m. followed by the Ranchers-Ididers tussle at 7:30 p.m. while Breakers will meet PCC Mesekiu at 9 p.m.

Wednesday night games will have Stingers against Meda Boys at 6 p.m. as Papago Smooth will face Surangel Kings at 7:30 p.m. while Ngermid Rivals takes on Melngoes at 9 p.m.

Thursday night will feature Meyuns Red Storm taking on Ngaraard Red Torch at 6 p.m. as Raw Surf will test Idid 4x4 Wheelers at 7:30 p.m. while Ididers will take on Ngarchelong Blue Shark in the night cap at 9 p.m.

Teams this season, teams are divided into two pools. Pool A will have Papago Smooth, Ngarchelong Blue Shark, Ngaraard Red Torch, Hanpa Cardinals, Surangel Kings, Meyuns Red Storm, Melngoes, Ranchers, Ididers and Ngermid Rivals. Pool B will be composed of MEDA Boys, Matakui, Idid 4x4 Wheelers, Ikelauans, Stingers, Lawmen PEAC, Raw Surf, Breakers, Airwaves and PCC Mesekiu.
