Stingers, Surangel Kings score win in IP&E ABL

Team Stingers and Surangel Kings nailed respective victories after beating separate opponents Wednesday night in the ongoing 2012 season of the IP&E Amateur Basketball League (ABL) at the Palau National gym.

Despite playing with five players with no coach, team Stingers managed to beat the Airwaves, 85-71. After taking a 38-37 lead at the end of the first half, the Stingers controlled the third canto as they outscored the Airwaves with a 28-20 output to take a 66-57 lead.

From there, the Stingers held on for the win with Douglas Schmidt Jr. leading the scoring chores with 37 points while teammate Wallace Rikrik added 15. Etitl Mad topscored for the Airwaves with 17 markers but was not enough to fuel a comeback.

On the other hand, Surangel Kings held on to escape with a 77-74 victory over On Fire. Reid Una Rikrik paced the Kings with 30 baskets while Cosby Kelmal had 22 for On Fre on the losing end.

In other games, Ngermid Rivals beat B.O.G., 73-61; Mesang Red Storm defeated PCC Mesekiu, 86-75; Aqua Smooth routed Kabong, 89-68; 4x4 Wheelers downed Rivals, 78-75; Breakers drubbed Ikelauans, 72-50; and Surangel Kings won over Renchers, 89-74.

Games resume tonight with Spoilers versus PPR Shark Attack at 6 p.m. while Breakers will meet Dngeronger at 9 p.m. January 30 matches will have Kabong against Surangel Kings at 6 p.m. followed by the PPR Shark Attack-Mesang Red Storm at 7:30 p.m. while Dngeronger will face PCC Mesekiu in the main game at 9 p.m.
