SWEAT - but NO BLOOD or TEARS ... YET !
Raobu Tarawa (Throws) and David Birati (Jumps) have been given a breakdown of what they are expected to do in training for the next twelve weeks, leading up to their departure for Pune for the Commonwealth Youth Games. The group is scheduled to leave on October 7th.
They are expected to train (for now) three times per week, on alternate days. The first seven weeks of their programme is devoted to Conditioning, to produce more speed, power, and strength. For the final five weeks, the emphasis will shift to Technique. Each Saturday will consist of half a session of technique (including two Trials meetings) plus half a session of Circuit Training. That's what happened today ! In the photos, you will see David doing his TJ technique practice on the field, then doing press-ups with high feet up in the stand. Meanwhile, Raobu had done some throwing of the (new) 1.75k. discus and needs to increase the angle of release. Then, as you will see, he completed his circuit under the eyes and watch of Eria !
They have both been given initial targets, to hit either before departure (preferably) or in the main competition. David is aiming for an improvement to TJ over 13m. and HJ over 1.95m. He may not achieve these on the rough facilities available here. Raobu has similar aims, to push the Shot over 13m. and sling the Junior Discus over 40m. He could do both of these very soon here.
Apart from training, they have both been warned to try to keep well and avoid injury. David is still nursing a weak instep/ankle done initially in Saipan. We hope it responds to treatment !
