RECUPERATING FROM JET LAG ?
Having ate and slept well in Majuro, and been entertained by the local I-Kiribati community on Wednesday night, we checked in the airport just in time at 0900 - closing at 0930 - on Thursday morning. A very thorough search of bags by Security removed my shaving foam - not a bomb and NOT dangerous ! But you don't argue, do you ? A typical *Island-Hopper* flight through Kwajalein and FSM followed, with which the athletes coped very well.
Arrival in Guam in the evening was smooth and easy, except for Riani ! The US Embassy in Majuro had made a dirty mark on the bottom of his visa and this required momentary detention, investigation, and the issue of more paper ! A luxury coach ride then took us to the Leo Palace Resort, self-contained but remote from shops and interesting places!
Food and sleep followed, to catch up and rest.
BURAI - A GOLDEN JUMPS DOUBLE !
Maintaining his reputation and position as the best all-round jumper in Micronesia, with well-timed efforts in the Triple Jump and High Jump, Buraieta Yeeting took the gold in each. In the High Jump he was supported by Beteru Ateri in 3rd. with 1.75m. Burai had efforts of 13.04m. and 1.79m. in winning.
HURDLES and JAVELIN produce more podium results.
In the first of our track events, Beteru had earlier produced a determined but imperfect effort of 62.05 to place second. Shuttling between the 100m. Final and the Javelin, Rabangaki Nawai took 2nd. place in the Javelin with 49.04m. to the winner throwing 54+.
SPRINT QUALIFIERS.
In the Heats of the M100m., Rabangaki won his Heat with 11.47 with Ieie Matang 3rd. in 11.70. In a separate Heat, Tanroo Taniera placed 3rd. in 11.72. In the Final, for which Tanroo narrowly failed to qualify, Rabangaki placed 5th. with 11.48 and Ieie produced a PB of 11.56 in placing 6th. With three of ours in the top nine, prospects look good (exchanges permitting !) for a tight race between Kiribati, FSM, and Nauru in the 4 x 100 Relay.
LATE FINISH - BUT A GOLDEN RESULT !
A late finish last night, followed by a spaghetti meal and sleep, seemed to treat Rabangaki well enough. Having managed to get up, prepare himself, and grab a plate of cereal, accompanied by coach Riani, he caught transport to "The Valley" for the MDiscus.
When they returned about two hours later, Rabangaki had earned himself a gold medal (a PB of 35.72m.} - and another plate of cereal !
A sunny morning seems to be clearing up the rain from last night so hopefully there will be a weather-free competition later this afternoon (Saturday:}.
