Va'a Teams Battle Nature and Rival Teams for Gold

            Battling strong winds, heavy rain, and rival teams, the 8th Micro Games outrigger canoeing teams performed admirably on the first day of competition.

           Paddling against strong winds, the CNMI men’s canoeing team took gold in the 1500m Finals, with a time of 7:47.96. Pohnpei came in a close second with 7:48.19, with Palau taking third with 7:59.71.

          The Palau women’s team took gold in the 1500m Finals with a final time of 9:27.65. Pohnpei took second place again at 9:33.08, with Kosrae coming in third with a time of 9:55.65.

           In the 500m Finals, Pohnpei men’s team nabbed first place with a time of 2:13.19, with Guam coming in just a few milliseconds behind, at 2:14.57. Palau came in third with 2:21.85.

          Palau women’s team grabbed their second gold medal of the day as they finished first in the 500m Finals with a time of 2:53.53. Team Guam came in a few seconds behind to take silver with a time of 3:04.81. Pohnpei took third with a time of 3:11.71.
