Under 8 Yellow (Coach: Josh McConnell)
Our U8 Mitcham Yellow team lined up against a very competitive Norwood team. Josh Dakic, our captain for this week, led the team brilliantly. The Tigers got on top early by winning the centre clearances, with our rucks and rovers getting the ball quickly into our forward line, allowing our forwards good goal scoring opportunities. The Tigers withstood Norwood's strong fight back in the second quarter and continued to win the ball by playing in front. Our use of the ball was exceptional through our hand passing and fast running and we were able to kick lots of goals because of our quick delivery into the forward line. Our Panelan's Cafe award went to Thomas Woodhead, who played by far his best game for the club - well done Woody ! The “Buffet Hut” award went to Daniel Grace, who provided us with great run into the forward line as well as bagging a few goals himself. Our Mitcham medal winner this week went to Tom Linnett who went in and grabbed a lot of contested ball and linked up really well with his teammates. Norwood also provided a medal to our team - presenting it to Josh Dakic - for his tremendous leadership shown as captain as well as his silky skills on both sides of the body and the many goals he kicked. Congratulation to Kailei who played her first game for the club - well done. We were very proud of the team in welcomingKailei and going to extra effort in making sure that she was involved in the game. We look forward to another big game this week against Montrose Blue at 10.30am.
Under 8 Black (Coach: Jeff Kane)
The conditions today were perfect for the young Tiger Cubs in their game against the Heathmont Jets. Captain today was Mason, proudly wearing the number 1 jumper for the Tigers, and the young fella was inspirational early taking a great mark deep in our forward line. The boys cleared the ball well from the centre and we saw some great team play and some awesome individual performances throughout the match. Marco had a day out, with his best game of the season, kicking a long bomb for a goal. Cooper was all over the ground, and was very good in the air collecting a lot of marks in the midfield. Morgan showed he loves playing in defence and played a very good game getting first to the ball and playing in front of his opponent. Lewis took a very good mark indeed at the top of the square to convert for his first points ever for the Tigers. The Jets also showed they were a great team and were competitive against us all day as the two teams matched up really well. Marco won a voucher for his efforts today and the coaching staff also awarded him goal of the day and the Mitcham medal. Jett deservedly won an award with his efforts in the ruck and defence, and we can clearly see that his kicking has improved out of sight! Cooper got our mark of the day for one of the many he took around the ground today and play of the day went to Morgan who was hard at the ball all game. Well done also to the 4 players who volunteered to play for Heathmont; Harrison, Joshua, Ned and Archer all showed true sportsmanship and represented the club very well indeed. Great game boys!
Under 9 Yellow (Coach: Mark Butler)
On a chilly but dry day at Walker Park, the Mitcham boys took on a tall St. Simons team. With a couple of outs, we once again called upon Charlie from the Under 8s to fill in. Thanks Chopper. Before the game I asked for all the boys to win the footy by playing in front and having more determination than our opponents. It all starts in the middle and we couldn’t have had a better start from Dylan, Riley, Henry and Ty in the engine room as we kicked 7 goals to 1 in the first quarter. Our backline led by Skipper Stephen Stansfield remained strong and in shape and the forwards shared the goals in a great display. The rest of the game was pretty tight as St. Simons came back with some nice passages of play. Riley was terrific all day and is really showing some great form of late, highlighted by a great first quarter where he won the footy and brought his teammates into the game with hand and foot. He was awarded the Mitcham Medal today. Dylan was also great in the first quarter dominating in the ruck and giving us first use of the footy. He was awarded a Sundae from Panelens for his game toady. Also getting a Sundae from Panelens was Mason for yet another great game in the air and with his great field kicking and Will who kicked 2 first quarter goals and was tough at it all game.
Under 9 Black (Coach: Peter Ajani)
Under 9 Mitcham Black played Waverley Blues. Lead by Captain Archie the team tried hard against the A grade lightening premiers and there were several good passages of play, however the Waverley team was way too strong for my boys. The highlight of the game was a fantastic goal by Felix. Paul received the Mitcham medal for the way he stood up for himself and the team.
Under 10 (Coach: Bard Aujard)
Today saw the U10’s venture out to East Burwood to take on the Rams. After a disappointing week last week the Tigers didn’t get off to a very quick start, however after a pep talk from the coach at quarter time the boys finally kicked into gear with some excellent teamwork and aggressive tackling. All boys contributed today which was great to see.
Goals: Tynan 2, Ethan 2, Christian, Daniel and Ashton
Best: Ethan, Tynan, Ryan M and Rory
Under 11 (Coach: Sandi Marini)
Today we met East Burwood at home. A continuation of the last 2 weeks prevailed. Our pressure was outstanding, forcing a fumbling East Burwood into mistakes and turnovers and then using our speed to capitalize on the scoreboard. Massive win for the boys!
Best Players: James. Luke. Charlie B. Charlie W. George. Xavier. Jordan.
Final Score: Mitcham 20.9.129 d East Burwood 0.0.0
Under 12 (Coach: Jason Philactides)
After a great bonding session at our trivia night, the boys were able to relax and enjoy each other’s company off the field. Footy isn't just about the playing, it's also about the friendships and getting to know each other. I think we may have a few future game show contestants. Today we obviously didn't get the desired result however I thought the boys really tried hard. Their desire and willingness was there, but unfortunately Kilsyth were just far too strong. Jamie C played his role beautifully today. He harassed and annoyed his opponent all day and even got under the skin of the goal umpire due to his constant niggling. It was a great selfless game. Julian is another wonderful addition to our team. He is improving every week and when he plays with confidence he is very hard to beat in the air and on the ground. Julian has a lot of natural ability and like other first year players, over time will become a great player. Lastly it was great to see Liam get recognition by the opposition team for his effort. Well-done boys!
Goals: Jamie C.
Final score: Kilsyth 12.11.83 d Mitcham 1.3.9
Under 12 Girls (Coach: Ruby Schneider)
Today we played Montrose at Montrose and after having success there earlier in the season, we may have gone in a little confident, but like our team, they had quite a different line up and had improved greatly from the last time we met. Montrose moved the ball quite well and were able to score easily. However, as with each week, we always have some positives. Bianca had a great game and her improvement over the last couple of weeks has been enormous. Lucy D had another rewarding game. First gamers, Jess and Sabrina both got involved and Sabrina has a great last quarter after suffering a heavy knock early. Mathilda A had a blistering first quarter and Riley and Chloe both played fantastic games, ferociously tackling all day. So proud of Meg and Amber who copped heavy knocks but bounced back to carry on. Also well done to our Captains of todays game, Evie and Matilda R.
Final Score: Montrose 8.5.51 d Mitcham 0.1.1
Under 13 (Coach: Mark Ross)
The U13's ventured to Donvale to take on a team that was winless and as often happens we let down our guard and in turn let ourselves down. Donvale just wanted the ball more than the Tigers today and justly took the 4 points. Congratulations to Louis on playing his 50th game and great to see Luke back playing after injuring his knee in a practice watch. Also well done to Pat, Geromi and Hendo on winning the encouragement awards. I hope this was just one of those days when everyone was down and I'm sure we'll bounce back next week.
Goals: Harry, Ethan Wu, Atticus, Jamie and Lachlan.
Final Score: Donvale 8.7.55 d Mitcham 5.7.37
Under 14 (Coach: Shane Dickson)
The U14 team played Vermont Gold at Walker Park and started the game exceptionally well by outscoring & winning the first quarter against the 2nd placed team. Pressure & endeavour were there for the whole game & it was good to see the boys having a red hot go. Julian Hopkins was strong in the air & took plenty of marks whilst Jarrod and Josh tackled well & provided plenty of pressure on the ball carrier. Ryan Walsh, Bailey & Corey provided plenty of run throughout the game whilst Ryan Lynch converted on the scoreboard with 2 goals. Whilst the result didn’t go our way, the boys showed plenty of fight & character.
Award Winners – Josh Melville & Ryan Walsh
Best Players: Julian Hopkins, Jarrod Cumming, Josh Melville, Ryan Walsh, Bailey Hunter & Corey Dickson.
Goals: Ryan Lynch (2), Rylan Leitner, Julian Hopkins & Bailey Hunter.
Final Score: Vermont Gold 14.14.98 d Mitcham 5.9.39

Winter is coming! The best looking Team ever in the entire history of football took a trip to the winter wonderland that is the Eastern lions home ground at Ferntree Gully to take on Bayswater, The sunlight danced across the open storm water drain in a somewhat romantic fashion, as the playful rats scarpered in and out of the broken drain pipes. The girls looked keen for the fight as we took to the field; kicking with the wind in the first we jumped the Baysies and shot to an early lead. With 2 on the bench becoming 1 when the superstar winger Cat snapped a hammy. The rest off the game was a torrid affair with both sides throwing themselves in at a ferocious rate. In a battle of attrition the Baysies were just that little bit stronger and came out on top running out winners by 3 or 4 goals. Best on ground was our captain Alice the Princess, a great game scoring almost all of our score (2 goals 3 behinds). Congrats to Alana, Lexy, Chelsea, Ally Naylor, Liv and Sally terrific four quarter performances. From the look of the side after the game it is going to be a long week at the Beauticians if we are to retain our mantel as best looking side ever. Good luck with the black eye Ally, the crook knee Lexy, the corked bottom Alice, the hammy Cat, the vertigo Enola . I’m sure you will all be ok for the next exciting episode. Finally thanks to our supporters and staff for not getting involved with the dimwit from Baysie that was giving the Umpire (a kid himself) and our players an unwarranted spray, unfortunately these types do get day release from the asylum on occasion and can turn up anywhere, its sad but true.
Final Score: Bayswater 6.4.40 d Mitcham 2.5.17
Under 17 (Coach: Cam Horsey)
Today we took on Lilydale who we believed would have been our biggest test this year. We focused on using our strengths with our run and carry and try to expose them with our pace across the ground. We also knew that our team would be strengthened with the inclusion of Alex and Coop from long-term injuries. The coaching staff was adamant with the group that the start was crucial to the make-up of the game. At the warm up the boys were focused and they all had that look that they were going to be on today. At the start, the pace was frantic with both teams having a red hot go. Although Lilydale scored first the boys didn’t lose focus and worked hard to peg the lead back. With great work around the ground and with Hoppo having his goal-kicking boots on, we took control and held on with a firm grip for the rest of the game. The whole team worked well today and all the hard work has started to reap rewards. By no means are we to drop off the pressure that we apply and there is still a long way to go. Top spot has to be earned and to hold on to it is even harder. You guys are going to be hunted by all and we can’t allow teams to dictate terms. I was really proud of our efforts today; we look like a team who can take all comers. Special mentions to some players who were outstanding today. Stinger, Tayls, Hoppo, Riles, TK, Jimmy N, Jimmy L and Maxxy. As I said after the game everyone deserved mentions today, you all had an impact. Let’s keep the ball rolling next week, and set ourselves up in the final weeks of the season.
Well-done boys,
Go Tiges!!!!
