After a great season in which they only lost once during the home and away games, our Under 12's travelled to Ferntree Gully on Sunday and brought home the first Premiership Cup for the Mitcham Football Club for Season 2015.

MATCH REPORT from Premiership Coach - Mark Ross:

WOW! What a game.  This was a classic grand final at Ferntree Gully between the Tigers and South Croydon.  A smashing arm wrestle between two teams fully committed to winning the ultimate prize. The Tigers kicked to the city end in the first quarter with the aid of a slight breeze. Against the flow of play and some great team play starting from Josh on the wing finding Joel at half forward and passing to Jamie, saw Jamie play on and kick a much needed goal.  South Croydon responded quickly to lead at quarter time 8 points to 6.

The second quarter was a real tough quarter of football with neither team making much headway and South Croydon lead at half time by a single point.  At half time the coaching staff asked the Tigers to find another "GEAR" and lift to overcome a very tenacious opponent.

In the third the Tigers started well with the best team passage of play for the day, Jamie passing to Joel, Joel passing to Jamie, Jamie passing to Ethan Wu who then handballed to a running Jamie to kick a great running Tiger TEAM goal.  This had us up at three quarter time by 4 points.  The question was, could we hold on in the last quarter?

The boys lifted again and went into overdrive kicking 2 goals in the last, one to Harry from a strong contested mark and one to Callum running onto a bouncing ball to seal the game. What a victory for the Tigers, running out winners 25 to 9.

A stand out game by "sticky fingers" Joel Michaelson who took 14 marks, Remi in the middle with 7 marks, "Wuman's" second half of outstanding in and under footy, Jamie's 2 goals, Josh's great game on the wing and Wil Drakes determination to never be beaten were some of the individual highlights of the game.  The back line was again outstanding soaking up pressure and repelling attack after attack.  The midfielders ran all day and wore down the opposition and the forward line pressure produced enough opportunities for us to kick a winning score.

The ultimate prize was achieved by the ultimate team performance today and I could not be a prouder coach, parent and member of the Mitcham Junior Football Club.  To all the Tiger army, including the families and friends of players, the senior football club, other MJFC teams and the Mitcham Cricket club who came out to cheer us on, thank you for your support, it helped us get over the line.

What a fantastic season the boys have had.  After 44 training sessions, 2 practice matches, 14 home and away games and 2 finals, to come out on top today was a just reward for all the hard work you all put in.

A special thanks to Steve Agius, assistant coach who has been a "rock" of support, to Geoff Jones, team manager who ran the team from a administration point to view thank you both for your outstanding efforts all season.  To the trainers Greg Michaelson and David Harding who both did a great job all season well done and to my 2 runners, Paul Miller and Leigh Walters - thank you both.  To Craig Giles, Glenn Newnham, Gavin Ward and the rest of the junior Committee thank you for all your support.  To the parents who entrusted me with the task of coaching your boys I also thank you for your support.  I have thoroughly enjoyed coaching this fantastic group of boys.  Our team motto this season has been "ENJOY THE CONTEST" and did we enjoy it today.  It was a day I'll remember for the rest of my life, and I'm sure for everyone who was there today they will also remember it for the rest of their lives.

Go Tigers.  U12C Premiers 2015!

Final Score: Mitcham 4.1.25 d Sth Croydon 1.3.9
