KICKING off Round 9 of the Geelong Region Women’s Division 1 competition will be the battle between the 5th and 6th placed teams, when Bell Park takes on Surf Coast at Banyul Warri Reserve in Torquay on Friday night.

Bell Park has a game in hand on Surf Coast, who are currently three points behind them. Surf Coast, meanwhile, has won just one game and drawn two so far this season, while Bell Park has won two and drawn two.

Bell Park will be looking to get back on the winners’ track while Surf Coast will need to win to make sure the gap between them and the teams higher up doesn’t increase any further.

The following afternoon at Deakin University in Waurn Ponds, the Deakin Ducks will host neighbouring rivals Barwon SC. Barwon has been doing well so far this season and has won four and drawn two out of its seven matches so far and currently sits in 2nd spot on the table.

Deakin is 4th on the table with the Duckettes having won two and drawn four of their first seven games, leaving them four points behind Barwon.

The top four remains extremely close, with just six points separating 1st from 4th. There isn’t too much room for error and every point is important at this stage.

To wrap up the round, Drysdale SC will host the top of the table Geelong Rangers at the Drysdale Sporting Precinct on Saturday afternoon. Rangers currently have won five and drawn one of their seven games so far this season.

Drysdale are six points behind Rangers in 3rd with ten points and have won three and drawn one of their six games.

Bottom side Kardinia will be forced to have a break this week as a result of a BYE.
