NEWS: Goals aplenty in Round 13 of Women's Division 1 as Drysdale and Deakin continue domination

GOALS GALORE were the order of the day in the latest round of matches in the Geelong Region Women’s Division 1 competition, with a total of 24 goals scored in the four games at an astonishing average of six goals per game!

Competition leaders Drysdale and second placed Deakin Ducks continued their dominance at the top of the league standings easily accounting for Surfside Waves and Barwon respectively.

On the back of a sensational five goal haul by prolific scorer Serena Clapp, Drysdale defeated Surfside Waves 7-0 at Howard Glover Reserve on Saturday. Clapp has now scored a total of 24 goals for the season and sits in second spot on the top goalscorers’ chart. Shannon Daffy and Olivia Smith were the other goalscorers for the table toppers.

Deakin easily defeated Barwon 6-1 at Deakin University’s Sports Field with league top scorer Hannah Gordon hitting the back of the net on four occasions, to take her season’s tally to a whopping 31 goals! Sarah Fry and Chelsea Joel also scored for the Duckettes, while Olivia Parrington was the lone scorer for the visitors.

Third placed Surf Coast was another club that enjoyed a massive win, in the other Saturday afternoon fixture, defeating bottom side Geelong 6-0 at Stead Park.

Lora Symonds scored twice, as did Rebecca Mcglinchey, while Samantha Walsh and Francesca Ciuffetelli both scored singles apiece. Ciuffetelli has now bagged a total of 11 goals for the season.

On Friday night, second last placed Barwon Heads and fourth placed Kardinia College opened Round 13 with an entertaining 2-2 draw at Village Park in Barwon Heads.

Caelli Wood opened the scoring in the 5th minute for the ‘Students’, while captain Bella Murphy-Bowen made it 2-0 after just 16 minutes. The home side managed to claw back into the contest, netting twice in the second half to split the points. The scorers for Barwon Heads were not submitted by the club.
