NEWS: Rangers to host Sunday's opening round of the MiniRoos Northern Hub

GEELONG Rangers have saved the day - Sunday's opening round of the Northern Hub MiniRoos season will now be held at Myers Reserve, after the original venue Elcho Park was unable to host the carnival event due to the severe flooding of the past few days.

Yesterday it was announced, that as a result of the significant rainfall leaving Elcho Park waterlogged and unavailable to host the carnival event, the opening round was at risk of being cancelled.

At that stage, Northern Hub co-ordinator Steve Siketa in conjunction with Football Federation Victoria (Geelong office) was attempting to access an alternative venue, with Kardinia College at one stage looking a possible option.

Thankfully, Rangers' ground in Bell Post Hill has pulled up well after a relatively dry day yesterday and with more dry weather forecast for today, the facility on Creamery Road has become available to host this weekend's gala event.

Myers Reserve;''s availability was also dependent on a GRFC Boys' U13B fixture between Rangers and Barwon being moved either to a later timeslot or to Barwon's home ground. Following a series of late night phone calls and subsequent emails, it was arranged through the FFV Competitions Department earlier today to move the U13 fixture to Grovedale Reserve.

PLEASE NOTE: The original times and pitch allocations have remained identical, the only difference is the actual venue.

The Geelong Region Football Committee (GRFC) would sincerely like to acknowledge the efforts of Rangers for providing a venue at the last minute, Barwon SC for accommodateing the venue change for the Boys' U13B game, Northern Hub Co-Ordinator Steve Siketa for his tireless efforts in arranging an alternative venue, North Geelong Soccer Club for notifying all parties well in advance and the FFV Comps Department for allowing the last minute fixture reschedulements under such extraordinary circumstances.
