NOTICE: FFV releases 2017 Competitions calendar and GRFC Draft League structures

FOOTBALL Federation Victoira (FFV) Competitions Department wishes to advise all Geelong region clubs of the 2017 calendar and draft league structures. This follows on from the 2017 Geelong Competitions Memo which was released on 28 October 2016.

2017 Calendar

FFV has released the 2017 calendar for all competitions, available with the attachment below. Additionally, all clubs are to take note of the following key dates in the lead-up to the season:

-       Wednesday 22 February FFV Geelong Team Entry Period opens

-       Tuesday 14 March FFV Geelong Team Entry Period closes

-       Wednesday 29 March League Structure Update & Draft Fixture Release

-       Monday 3 April Draft Fixture Feedback Deadline

-       Thursday 13 April Fixture Update Release

-       Friday 21 - Sunday 23 April Round 1 of the FFV Geelong Season

-       Friday 15 - Sunday 17 Sept. FFV Geelong Finals Week 1

-       Friday 22 - Sunday 24 Sept. FFV Geelong Finals Week 2

Particular to the 2017 season, clubs will note that the proposed start date for the majority of Community competitions is the weekend of 23rd April. Whilst the start date is later than previous seasons, the placement of Easter and School Holidays forces a shift to a late April start to accommodate the vast majority of participants that play football.

The flow-on from the late start is the fact that the Regular Season will now conclude 10th September. Please let us know if this poses any challenges from an access perspective for your ground. If that is the case, FFV Competitions will work with Clubs and Councils to reverse fixtures for Clubs without ground access in September or accommodate at alternate venues where possible.

2017 Draft League Structures

The draft league structures for FFV Geelong competitions are also available with the attachment below. All league structures for Men's Masters, Senior Women's and Juniors will be determined following the team entry period between 22 February and 14 March 2017.

As per the motion passed by GRFC delegates for inclusion into the 2017 Rules of Competition, draft league structures for Men's Divisions 1 to 3 have been determined by ranking based on 2016 results. Clubs that do not accept its league position for a particular team will be suspended from fielding that team or any additional senior men's teams for 12 months.

Vacancies in Men's Division 1 or 2 will arise when a team withdraws from the structure entirely. If and where this occurs, FFV will invite clubs during the team entry period to fill as many vacancies as possible.

For further information regarding any of the above, please contact the FFV Competitions Department at competitions@ffv.org.au or call 9474 1800 and press '1' on the switchboard.

Regards,

Michael Ireland
