NEWS: Rangers maintain massive eight point buffer at top of Women’s Div 1

BARWON and Drysdale kicked off Round 13 of the Geelong Region Wo,men’s Division 1 competition last Thursday night under lights at Grovedale Reserve with the exciting game ending in a 2-2 draw.

Michaela Buchanan scored a brace for the home team. However, it wasn’t enough to defeat the visiting team as goals from Olivia Smith and Serena Stephens secured a point for Drysdale.

Barwon remains five points clear of 4th placed Drysdale in 3rd position on the league table.

On Saturday afternoon at Deakin University’s Sporting Precinct in Waurn Ponds, the Ducks hosted bottom of the table Surf Coast and easily defeated them 5-0.

Caitlin Bishop scored a brace while Ashley Evans, Hannah Gordon and Brittany Patafio all scored goals to ensure that Deakin took the three points.

Deakin remains 2nd on the table with 20 points while Surf Coast remains bottom with just five points.

Across town in Bell Post Hill, competition leaders Geelong Rangers hosted Kardinia College at Myers Reserve.

It wasn’t Kardinia’s day, as the young Students were easily defeated 8-1 by the hosts.

Brittany Elsen, Ally Van Dalen and Zoe Tizard all scored a brace for the home side, while Ruby McCloskey and an unfortunate own goal from Kardinia’s Irenie Anagnostelos rounded out the scoring for Rangers.

Andjela Matijas scored what proved to be a minor consolation for the visitors during the match.

Geelong Rangers remain well ahead of the pack with 28 points on top of the table, followed by Deakin Ducks who are a massive eight points behind the league leaders.

Kardinia remains 6th with 7 points, still two points ahead of last placed Surf Coast.
