The Grovedale based club needed the Rangers to defeat the second placed Breakwater Eagles in order for it to go 13 points clear with four games left. Rangers allowed Barwon to celebrate its Championship triumph early by beating the Eagles 5-2.

Nathan Borg netted a hat-trick in the 9-0 rout over Surf Coast, while Samuel Kidd scored a brace on debut. The other goalscorers included Liam Fiolet, Nathan Drazinic, Ben Hubbard and Oliver Hunnerford.

“I would just like to congratulate the players and thank them for their superb effort this season. We still remain unbeaten and 13 points clear, that is a great effort,” Barwon coach Dale Harris said in a statement on the club’s official Facebook page.

“We have used over 22 players which just goes to show the quality in depth we have. The lads have been tremendous at training and during the matches, worked hard, played according to instructions, worked for each other and were one big happy family.

“As a coach I couldn't have asked for a better bunch to work with. Each and every one of you were perfect examples of how to behave on and off the field and the true meaning of never give up! I am truly proud of all of you and thankful to all our supporters,” concluded Dale Harris.

Sewing up the Men’s Division 1 title now means Barwon SC has qualified for the inaugural Victorian Country Regional Champions’ Tournament which is proposed to be held in Bendigo in October.
