NEWS: FFV Competitions issues reminder about ‘team tying’ rule

AT THIS point of the season, Football Federation Victoria (FFV) wishes to remind and clarify the purpose and enforcement of Regulation 13.1.15 & 14.1.5 of the 2018 Geelong Region Rules of Competition for the remainder of the 2018 local league season.

Please see below the regulation for both Senior Men’s and Women’s divisions of football.

13.1.15. For all Geelong Senior Men’s competitions, a Player who has played at a higher Division in a particular category (e.g. Men’s Division 1) for six (6) Competition Fixtures or more, cannot drop to a lower category (e.g. Men’s Division 2) for his Club for the remainder of the Regular Season (including Finals).

14.1.15 For all Geelong Senior Women’s competitions, a Player who has played at a higher Division in a particular category (e.g. FFV Geelong Women’s Division 1 or Women’s State League 2) for six (6) Competition Fixtures or more, cannot drop to a lower category (e.g. Women’s Division 2) for her Club for the remainder of the Regular Season (including Finals).

As background, the above regulations were additions into the Rules of Competition for the 2018 season. This was based on feedback provided by the Geelong Region Football Committee (GRFC) before being reviewed internally during the 2017 competitions review.

The wording of these regulations was based on that of the of 2018 Rules of Competition – Metropolitan Competitions. These changes were communicated to clubs in an official memorandum on Tuesday 6th of March this season (see attachment).

FFV would like to remind all clubs that these regulations are in place throughout the 2018 season and that team selection needs to be reflected in fielding of only eligible players, specific to the division of competition.

At the FFV’s discretion there are consequences in place that offending teams may be subject to under the GDT (Grievance, Disciplinary and Tribunal By-Law).
