GEELONG Rangers coach Brian Conn knows his team is good enough. It’s just a matter of getting all of his star players on the pitch at the same time. Rangers flexed its Geelong Region Men's Division 1 muscle last weekend, rolling the previously undefeated Barwon 2-0.

The win will give Conn’s men plenty of confidence heading into this week’s bye, with just two games remaining in the season after the break. “We know we have some good players in our team. It’s just the age and fitness we are lacking,” Conn said.

Zach Harry and Darren McCallum both netted in the first half for Rangers in the win over Barwon.

The win reverses the 9-0 result in Barwon’s favour the last time the two sides met.

“We had a lot of players out with injury and some young players in,” Conn said of the drubbing.

“We were very inexperienced , so it was a bit tough.

“But last week we had all our players back. We had to go hard in the first half because we know their fitness is going to be better than ours. We held them out in the first half.”

Rangers finds itself with an interesting run into finals. It’s locked into the Division 1 top four and will finish either second or third depending on results .

Securing a home final is crucial, Conn believes. And it’s destiny is in its own hands in that regard, sitting a point clear in second.

Breakwater Eagles is in third and has a better goal difference .

The two sides don’t meet again this season, but Rangers faces a potential banana skin next week in its Friday night blockbuster with Surfside.

Surfside sits inside the top four by just three points and a loss would bring Lara United right back into finals contention .

“We want to finish second so we get the home semi final,” he said.
