August 2020
Updated community sport recommendations
In response to increased cases of COVID-19 in NSW, the Chief Health Officer provided additional public health recommendations to community sporting to minimise the risk of COVID-19 transmission from participation in community sports.
The updated recommendations, organisations to be implemented from 19 August, seek to help meet the NSW Government’s aim of achieving no community transmission and will support community sports to continue operating safely.
Following the distribution of the Chief Health Officer’s letter to community sport organisations, NSW Health provided further advice to assist community sport organisations to implement the recommendations.
Organisations are encouraged to read both the letter and the advice/FAQs to ensure they make informed decisions.
Furthermore, community sports organisations are still required to have a compliant COVID-19 Safety Plan.
The Office of Sport acknowledges the support of SSOs, SSODs and peak bodies in disseminating this information to their stakeholders and implementing these recommendations.
Let’s continue to work together to keep community sport safe and reduce the risk of community transmission.

Scone Basketball Is Back

Please watch our website and social media page for details (as the details of Covid19 compliance are ever changing). We are aiming to play a 15-round competition (plus finals / GF date week commencing 16 November 2020) draws will be uploaded via the website.

 Key Covid19 considerations

  • Entry / Exit to the stadium for everyone - The Entry will only be thru the door at the canteen, the Exit door will be the doors facing Hill Street.
  • Hand sanitiser will be available for use before, during and after the game.
  • On arrival there will be a sign in booklet at the entry every person entering the stadium is required to sign in. All players will sign the player score sheet. Please do not enter the stadium earlier than the designated time to your child’s game, or before the players from the prior game have departed. As soon as your child’s game has finished please exit the stadium within a timely manner.
  • Game basketballs will be sanitised prior to each use. Please do not bring your own basketball into the stadium. They can be used by your child on the outside court.
  • After every game the score board area is to be wiped down prior to the start of the next game.
  • There will be a nominated Covid19 officer on site at all times to monitor the social distancing measures, please adhere to all hygiene protocols (hand hygiene, entry and exit to the stadium etc)
  • There will be no canteen until further restrictions are lifted
  • The stadium will be cleaned every day of competition so please be respectful and keep the stadium tidy.
  • No drink bottles or towels are to be shared.

This is possible as we are COVID-Safe approved by the NSW Government, see https://www.nsw.gov.au/covid-19/industry-guidelines/sports-recreation-and-gyms to read more about the NSW health page for indoor recreational facilities. There will be some important Biosafety Measures in place, and our focus will be on making sure all participants can enjoy basketball in a safe and fun environment.

Basketball NSW continues to work closely with Basketball Australia, NSW Office of Sport, NSW Health and other government agencies as we plan for the full return of basketball in NSW.

Our localised plan for the return of basketball in NSW is in line with the Federal Governments National Principals for the Resumption of Sport, the AIS Framework for Rebooting Sport in a Covid-19 Environment with Basketball Australia’s Return to Basketball Guidelines providing a strong reference point.

We continue to work with Basketball Australia and the other Basketball States and Territories to develop practical working guides for associations to use in enabling basketball activities to be run as soon as possible, we encourage associations to also read Social Distancing & Hygiene Considerations for Basketball and Sport Activities in a Stadium.
