GSABA Best and Fairest Voting Criteria

From the Referee/Members Meeting the question was raised about the criteria.

The keys points that are on the voting slips are:

a) Team work
b) Consistency
b) Offence and Defence Performance
c) Influence on outcome of the match

The players must also be considered by the referees as having played and acted in a fair manner during the game. If they dont meet this criteria they will not receive votes.

The referees take pride in the voting process, it is discussed at breaks, time-outs and at the end of the game. The referees know it is a time-honoured award that needs considered deliberation.

It is not just given to the top=point scorer, however the top point scorer may receive votes.

If a player meets several of the criteria they are considered for votes. At times a player meets all the criteria or several may and then in the judgement of the referees the player that has the biggest influence on the outcome of the match will be given preference as a general rule.

In games, in junior games in particular, the top point scorer can be the best defensive player as well, therefore consistent, also distributes the ball well (assists) and will have a large influence on the outcome of the match.
