Fred Mayer sentiment: “Everyone’s a mate”.
The Fred Mayer Scholarship provides opportunity junior athletes who need assistance in the pursuit of their goals. The scholarship provides funding to support these athletes that would otherwise be disadvantaged in not being able to represent the National Team because of financial constraints.
Fred was a Hungarian immigrant to Australia in the 1950’s and was a devoted supporter of sport in Australia. Knowing how much he loved the sport, both his sons, Sam and Robbie, donated so that the legacy of their father could live on. When asked about his father, Sam explained:
“Fred might not have played Water Polo at the highest level, but no one has achieved more pleasure playing, watching or talking about Water Polo.”
The recipients must replicate Fred’s ethos and sentiments. Please see below the following criteria to be eligible for the scholarship:
Scholarship based on:
- Assessment by the Mayer Family around current level of performance
- Demonstrated commitment to water polo
- An ability to contribute to the ethos of Water Polo NSW
- Legitimate, demonstrated financial need
Criteria to be addressed:
- Water Polo achievements
- How have you demonstrated commitment
- What financial / personal challenges have you faced
- How will a scholarship assist you
- Previous or current sponsorship or funding
Eligible applicants can receive a maximum of $4,000 in any twelve (12) month period.
