Gliders and LeGassick Goannas Face Test

The Gold Coast Gliders and the Gold Coast LeGassick Goannas face a huge uphill battle tomorrow night in QBL action as they travel up the Pacific Motorway to take on a red hot Northside Wizards.

The Gliders will take a team that has not tasted defeat in season 2010 boasting an impressive 5 – 0 record including wins over Maroochydore, Caboolture and Toowoomba.

If the Gliders are going to halt this juggernaut, they are going to have to stop Australian Opals star Jenna O’Hae who has been in scintillating form averaging just over 25 points and 14 rebounds per game.

However, the Gold Coast Gliders have turned the corner after two disappointing losses in rounds one and two to turn things around with two impressive wins at home and have Coach Chris Riches happy with his troops.

“I am very happy with the way the girls have come out the last two games. Obviously winning make a difference but everything else has just clicked and the effort is much better,” he said.

When asked how he intends to combat the likes of Jenna O’Hae, he smiled and said, “I don’t think she’s playing is she?”

Later in the evening the LeGassick Goannas will try to pounce on a somewhat wounded Northside Wizards.

Last week they joined the winners circle again after defeating the Toowoomba Mountaineers but did falter the week prior to that.

The Goannas can take confidence going into this matchup after handing the Caboolture Suns a 10 point loss last weekend, a team who defeated Title Favorites, the Northside Wizards two weeks ago by a single point.

However Goannas Head Coach Mick Conlon is fully aware of the Wizards arsenal, “I have been fortunate enough to coach two of their players in Chris Goulding and Anthony Petrie but there is no doubt they are going to be a handful.”

“Chris is so creative and Anthony is hard-nosed and a dominant force in this league so we’re going to have our work cut out, but anything can happen on any given night as we saw a couple of weeks ago,” he added.

“Throw a little bit of luck in there too and we’ll see where we’re at with a minute to go on the clock, but I am quietly confident,” he concluded.

And so they should be riding into The Sports Center at Boondal on a three-game winning streak defeating Ipswich in overtime in Ipswich then Toowoomba and Caboolture at home, over the past three rounds.

The games are set to tip off at 5pm and 7pm at The Sports Center, Boondal.

Then the folloing weekend, on Sunday 6 June, the Gliders and LeGassick Goannas return to The Southport School to host the Brisbane Capitals at 12pm and 2pm.
