Gold Coast QBL excitement is BACK!!!

There is a huge BUZZ on the Gold Coast right now with the the Gold Coast Gliders and the Gold Coast LeGassick Goannas putting on a show in yesterday's dismantling of the Toowoomba Mountaineers at The Southport School.

The corporate boxes lined the sidelines and there was a new feel to the program that has a very Gold Coast Blaze feel to it which included numerous Blaze officials and staff turn out as volunteers for the QBL show.

The Gliders got the day’s proceedings underway with a convincing 25 points win, also marking the Gliders first win of the season.

Sarah Petrie simply oozed class all game with 24 points and 13 rebounds but was assisted by Bree Griffiths (sponsored by QScan) with 15 points.

The Gliders shot out of the blocks taking an early 10 point lead into the first break and were never headed. The Mountaineers made a mini run on the back of Ezria Parsons who matched Petrie’s efforts with the exact same figures (24 points and 13 rebounds)

In the main game the Goannas looked sluggish throughout and were pushed until the final 2 minutes where fouls were given which resulted in a 94 – 82 win.

In what appeared to be a David and Goliath match up someone forgot to tell the men from the mountain that took an early three-point lead into the first break. However the LeGassick Goannas found some form to take their own three-point lead at the main break.

Game MVP Shaun Gleeson (sponsored by Moo Moo) has kept up his fine form pouring in 23 points with former Brisbane Bullets guard David Gurney (sponsored by Deep Blue Trading) adding 22 points.

“To say I wasn’t disappointed would be an understatement,” Goannas head coach Mick Conlon said.

“I mean we’ll take the win but I was disappointed in how we executed some of the plays down the track and just came out lethargic in front of our home crowd and really not playing like we did the week before when we beat Ipswich,” he concluded.

The Southport School was transformed yesterday into a state of the art entertainment facility with 11 courtside corporate boxes, both grand stands open, gourmet food from the canteen and a new professional approach which should see the crowds flock back for Sunday afternoon hoops full of fun and excitement.

Corporate packages are still available for the remaining eight home games as well as personal player sponsorships. Simply contact Joe Tertzakian (Big Joe) on 0403 734 508 or email to

The Gliders and LeGassick Goannas take on the Coastal Suns, next Sunday at The Southport School at 12pm and 2pm which marks the return of former Gold Coast Goanna player Thalo Green suiting up for the Coastal Suns.

"I would love to see everyone back next week plus bring a friend or two with them," Gliders/Goannas operations manager Joe Tertzakian (Big Joe) said.

"I don't think anyone left disappointed in how the game was presented.  It was a great day in which the entire operational team needs to be acknowledged and thanked for their efforts.  It will only get bigger and better from here so I look forward to seeing you all next week!" he concluded.

Adults are just $7 with children under 17 admitted free upon display of their school/student ID.
