One in five social netballers are likely to sustain an injury when throwing their body into social sport without taking due care to prepare... who's it going to be in your team? When it's already a mission to rally a full team each week, why risk it!
Injuries are a real inconvenience...
* Dealing with pain
* Cost of seeing a doctor/physio
* Impact on work productivity
* Disruption to normal functionality eg, sleeping, showering, walking, driving, playing
With this front of mind, we're committed to working with our Twilight players and umpires to reduce injury along with welcome support from NetballSmart Development Officer Carla van der Merwe.
In the coming weeks you'll find Carla present at our Twilight leagues. Her aim is to spread the good word about the benefit of warm-ups, introduce the easy 5 minute social power warm-up and set-up a simple warm-up station for your benefit on the night. Potential prizes could be on offer for those who like to turn everything into a competition or those partial to a little bribery!
Carla will be present at the designated NetballSmart Warm-up area on the following dates:
Thursday 19th November on the far side of Court 8 at ASB Sports Centre from 6pm onwards
Monday 30th November on Court 6 or upstairs at Hataitai Netball Courts from 6pm onwards
Wednesday 2nd December on the far side of Court 8 at ASB Sports Centre from 6pm onwards
Keep an eye out for more information hitting your inbox and via our NWC Facebook!
A short netball specific warmup is without doubt better than no warm-up at all. The aim is to decrease injury and get you primed and ready to play.
NetballSmart's Social Power Warm-up is over and done in 5-10 minutes.
It can be completed in a confined sideline space or on the spot.
The usual excuses of "not enough space" and "not enough time" really don't cut it any more.

Whether you're a premier, junior or social player - to help keep you active and mobile in the long run, we'd like to try and change current patterns of behaviour and see due care given to ensuring you warm-up each and every time you take the court.
We know part of the appeal of social netball is the casual vibe however once competition takes a hold, the standard of play inevitably rises to a level where accidents and injuries rear their ugly head to spoil the fun.
So don't let injury get in the way... dedicate at least 5 minutes to your team warm-up!
