Overview
The purpose of this correspondence is confirm protocols to enable football clubs to transition to contact training from Monday, 1 June – Stage 3 Contact Training (in groups of up to 20).
We have also added a new stage to our Roadmap – Stage 5 – which would allow competitions with spectators if/when that is approved by State Government and SA Health. While we do not have confirmation on a date or what protocols may be required to advance to Stage 5 of the SANFL Roadmap, we are confident that we are moving in a positive direction for this to occur. The updated SANFL Roadmap is set out below for your reference.
Please note that we recommend that clubs and leagues delay any announcement around the 2020 season until after the League Presidents/Secretaries on Tuesday, 9 June 2020. At that time, we expect to have further and more detailed information relating to a return to competition for football in South Australia, including when/if spectators may return (plus the provision of food and beverage) – this will ensure that an informed decision can be made by clubs and leagues.
Stage 3 Contact Training
The football community in SA is demonstrating strong leadership in the delivery of COVID safe guarding strategies – this has achieved significant trust and respect from State Government and SA Health. In that respect, clubs should feel very confident that if they follow the protocols associated with Stage 3 Contact Training, that they will be providing the best possible environment for our players, coaches, support staff, umpires and wider football community.

State Government COVID Safe Plans
As per direction from State Government, any Club that has resumed training and wishes to continue training MUST complete their COVID Safe Plan before 1 June. This includes continuing operation of their licenced venue where relevant (SANFL recommends Clubs adopt recommendations from Clubs SA to deliver a COVID Safe environment for their licenced venue).
A Club that has yet to commence training, or operation of their licenced venue MUST complete a plan prior to recommencing these activities.
The protocols and strategies provided by SANFL for clubs, plus the webinar, will enable clubs to meet all obligations detailed in the plan for provision of a COVID Safe environment for training.
