SKIPTON continued its home-and-away dominance of Carngham-Linton in a rainsoaked Kingprint Lexton Plains Football League match at Linton on Saturday.
The Emus won their 18th home-and-away game of the
26 played against the Saints by 45 points, 11.9 (75) to 4.6 (30).
Skipton coach Tim McKay was pleased with his team’s
win in the wet conditions.
McKay, who kicked a game-high three goals, knew at the
start of the game it was not going to be a skillful day.
‘‘We focused on the one percenters and those smart wet-weather things,’’ he said.
Carngham-Linton kicked the first goal, but the next
seven belonged to Skipton, as it assumed full control.
Two late last-term Saints goals added a touch of respectability to their score, but there was no big comeback.
Two of the Saints’ four goals came from free kicks, while
the highlight for them was a snapped goal from a pack by
Jason Hill in the final quarter.
Carngham-Linton coach Duane Bodey immediately set
about planning for the next block of four games — the last four before finals — by talking to players behind closed doors.
The Saints’ season is far from over, but it will take a
huge turnaround to match Skipton in the finals.
The Emus remain two games clear on top, but have a
tough three games ahead against Rokewood-Corindhap, Lexton and Navarre.
