NEW ROLE FOR MACKAY BASKETBALL JUNIOR DEVELOPMENT COORDINATOR
Mackay Basketball is excited to be working with Basketball Queensland in delivering a High Performance program based here in Mackay.
Basketball Queensland will now employ a Mackay Basketball representative to conduct all high performance needs in Mackay. As of the 1st of February, Lukass Blicavs, our current Junior Development Coordinator, will now be working with Basketball Queensland to offer this service. As part of this role, he will be tasked with running all High Performance programs set out by Basketball Queensland. This includes the State Performance Program (SPP), Future Development Program (FDP) and organising of any State Camps or Trials both here in Mackay and North Queensland. This role will involve further development in high performance coaching through the education provided by Basketball Queensland, which can then be passed on to club and rep coaches here in Mackay through coach development sessions. This role will look to strengthen our high performance athletes and coaches, and help them in their journey towards State Team selections and beyond.
The current role of Junior Development Coordinator, which will still be conducted by Lukass, will now be solely focused on coach and player development, with an emphasis on club basketball, and will be run part time partnered with the role through Basketball Queensland. With this new role being more focused on coach and player development in 2019, expect to see more coaching clinics, for both club coaches and rep coaches, as well as clinics for our beginner players to help improve their skills and their enjoyment of the game.
We have some big things coming in 2019, and with the implementation of this new role, MBI believes it will only further develop our juniors and our coaches, to continue the strong base that has been built and grow participation and enjoyment of this great sport.
