The Townsville Flames have secured a key piece for their team in the desire to win the first NBL1 North Championship with Mia Murray announcing today she will strap on the boots for season 2020.

Mia last played for the Townsville Flames in the 2017 season before taking on some Assistant Coaching duties with the team. In the 2017 season she led the flames in scoring at 16 points per game and 7 rebounds per game.

The former Flames and Townsville Fire player has spent some time off the court after giving birth to her son Sidney last year.

“I’m really looking forward to getting back on the floor in 2020 with the Flames. It’s going to be a little different for me personally, but I’m certainly looking forward to the challenge ahead and here’s hoping we go further into finals as a group”, said Murray.

Head Coach Luke Brennan identified early that Murray was a key signature to give some championship experience to the group after Murray was part of the three time WNBL Championship Townsville Fire teams.

“With a developing bench and a heap of young talent ready to step up for the Flames this year it was key to get someone with Mia’s resume on board”, said Brennan.

“She has already shown this league in the past what a dominant player she can be and we are glad she has chosen as the means to get herself back onto the basketball court.”
