PC BACK FOR ANOTHER TITLE TILT
The burning desire to repeat as QBL champions has drawn veteran sharp shooter Peter “PC” Crawford back for another season with the Beehive-QSolutions Heat in 2018. He returns for a third consecutive season with the team in hopes of lifting another QBL title.
Crawford enjoyed another stand out year for the Heat averaging 16.9ppg while shooting over 40% from beyond the 3-point arc, he also shot an incredible 40-42 from the free throw line over the course of the season. His veteran savvy and ability to make big shots with games on the line helped the Heat secure their first championship in 17 years when they defeated the Mackay Meteors in the 2017 grand final series.
Upon signing with the Heat for 2018, Crawford shared his desire to help the team go back-to-back in 2018.
“It definitely still burns in me to compete and win in the QBL. I love playing, I love being a part of this team and this program and I want to do it for as long as I still enjoy it. Winning a title isn’t easy, I was lucky enough to win one with the Heat in 2000 but it took 17 years to get another one. We’ve got a great shot to do it all again if we are committed and ready for the challenge”.
After enjoying an off-season filled with coaching duties with the Townsville Fire & QLD U20 Men, Crawford is eying a full pre-season with the team to help them be ready for the start of the season.
“It was great being on the other side of the fence and doing so much coaching this off-season, it’s allowed me to grow as a player and find new ways to contribute to the team. Now the challenge is to convert that into success on the floor”.
Townsville Basketball General Manager, Greg Vanderjagt identified Crawford as a key piece in the Heat’s title defence this season.
“PC, along with Wilch (Josh Wiclher) and Baker (Justin Baker) were always our priority to retain following last season. We weren’t sure if PC would go again this year after winning a title but he’s as fit and ready to go, he’s a pro and he knows what it takes to win. He played game 3 of the finals on one leg last year and went 7-7 from the 3. We are excited to have PC back on board this season and as a key part of the group that is going to defend this championship”.
“He still has great years left in his body and as long as he wants to play, we want him here. Pete has become a leader of our association and the footprint he has established in our community through the work he does in schools & on the floor with young athletes has contributed to our growth as an association”.
The 2012 London Olympian will turn 39 in November this year but has shown no signs of slowing down over the past two seasons. His impressive 2017 season, culminated by a title clinching performance in game 3 of last year’s QBL finals puts the rest of the competition on notice that he is a force to be reckoned with. With a deep and talented roster being assembled by the Heat, Crawford will be looked upon to provide a scoring punch and consistent 3-point threat for the team as well as assuming a leadership and mentor role with the developing talent on the roster.
