South Australian coaches to attend an informative coach development and education training day

On the weekend, Basketball SA and SA Country invited South Australian coaches to attend an informative coach development and education training day.

In a collaborative state-wide initiative, Basketball SA’s Manager of Player and Coach Performance Services, Scott Butler and SA Country’s High Performance Player and Coach Development Officer, Jamie Petty and Community Player and Coach Development Officer, Patrick Di Lizio delivered a Coach Developer and Presenter Accreditation course at Titanium Security Arena.

Aligned with Basketball Australia’s drive to increase the number and standard of coach developers and educators across the nation, Basketball SA and SA Country invited 10 South Australian coaches to attend the informative training day.

The course’s aim was to coach the coaches and build on their own tried and tested knowledge to upskill them to further develop and educate other upcoming coaches within South Australia’s system.

The course delivered topics focused on how to educate other coaches. Some of the specific areas discussed were how to coach fundamental basketball, how to plan and prepare for a season, and how to develop coaches within the association or club landscape.

Basketball SA’s Scott Butler was pleased with the great uptake and enthusiasm of the course delivery by both SA Metro and Country coaches.

“This joint initiative with SA Country was one of the first steps we are taking to re-boot our coach accreditation in coaching development and education across South Australia.

“Through this collaboration, we are able to work towards achieving an increase to the standard and quality of our coaches state-wide and encourage further development in the future.”

SA Country’s Jamie Petty is also looking forward to the positive outcomes of the course, with all attendees now accredited to deliver Basketball Australia’s Club Coach Accreditation (Level 1).

“It’s the first time we’ve had non-staff members qualified to deliver these courses in country South Australia.”

“We look forward to seeing the ongoing development of the standard of coaching quality across our state, and also the enhanced level of coaching this will also bring to players.”
