Sports SA Update - May 2018

South Australian Hall Of Fame nominations

The time is upon us for members and associations to send in their nominations for the 2018 South Australian Sports Hall of Fame.

This is an incredibly prestigious honour for individuals and teams, only bestowed upon our greatest SA champions. It’s absolutely the highlight of the Advertiser Channel 7 and Sport SA Awards Ceremony, which is scheduled to take place on Friday 16th November at Adelaide Oval.

The committee will be selecting up to a further six (6) inductees into the South Australian Sports Hall of Fame SASHOF in 2018, with the opportunity of elevating current inductees to Legend status. Chairing the committee is David Prince along with other members Bruce McAvaney, Wes Battams, Peter Dawe, Jenny Williams, Sandy Pisani and Pat Mickan. We will meet throughout the year to discuss previous nominations that may require further nomination and review the current nominations that have been directed to Sport SA for 2018.

I would ask that your organisation host an internal discussion and workshop 1- 4 worthy recipients from your sport (including teams) once established, send your nominations in to business@sportsa.org.au All nominations close on Friday the 13th of July, unfortunately we are unable to accept any late submissions.

If there are any questions or queries about the nomination process, timelines or eligibility, please feel free to call or email. I will be very happy to answer any of the enquiries you have.

NATIONAL SPORTS CONVENTION

Local government traditionally plays a critical role in the delivery of community facilities. In particular, it plays an important part in the more recent growth and provision of active recreation and sport development programs, which are often in collaboration with community sport providers and clubs. This theme will be explored in detail at the upcoming National Sports Convention 2018.

The National Sports Convention will deliver numerous conferences which reflect this growing interest in how local government can work more closely with the sporting community. Speakers will share insights, global best practice and Australian case studies to enhance local government’s knowledge and understanding of the opportunities it can embrace to make a real difference to the health, wellbeing and development of its communities.

Comment Guidelines: The SportsTG Network is made up of players, families and passionate sports followers like you who have a strong opinion about sport. That's great - we want you to have your say and share your thoughts with the world. However, we have a few rules that you must follow to keep it fun for all. Please don't be rude, abusive, swear or vilify others. Apart from some pretty serious sport sanctions, we also can ban you and report you if things get out of hand. So play fair and have fun, and thanks for your contribution.
