Hawks Get Their Guy In Guers

After a disappointing debut season in the new NBL1 competition, the Ringwood Hawks went out looking for some special talent to help drive them to a successful 2020 season. The Club announced today that they believe they have found exactly that with the signing of Philadelphia born combo Guard Tim Guers.

Tim Guers is a 6’3 Guard who played his College Basketball at Saint Anselm College, the same School that former Hawk Championship winner Mike McCahey attended. The great news is that he is comfortable playing anywhere on the court from point guard to small forward and has a resume’ to match or exceed any player the Hawks have recruited over their 30 year history.

Guers achievements on the court at Saint Anselm are legendary and he holds records that may never be surpassed. As Captain, Guers led his school to the NCAA Division 2 Elite Eight Semi Final but his individual impact over his College career is mind blowing.

After his 4 years of College basketball, Guers finished as the Schools leading all-time scorer with 2723 points at an average of over 19 per game, he was twice the Northest 10 Player of the Year, twice an NABC All-American, three times he was selected as a NE 10 1st team all-conference player and on and on it goes.

“His College numbers are just off the charts. He was arguably the best Division 2 player in the Country for two straight years.” Hawks Coach Ken Harrington said.

“We are incredibly excited to get him committed to come here but it took a lot of work, trust me on that.”

Harrington said he had kept a close eye on Guers for 4 years because his Assistant Coach Mark Sutton noticed him as a player when they were recruiting Mike McCahey back in 2015. Sutton kept bringing up his name as someone that they should chase hard one day, saying with his tongue firmly placed in his cheek, that Guers reminded him of himself back in the day.

“Tim was a star as a Freshman in College (his first season) and kept improving, so I thought he would be great for us one day but deep down I never really thought we would be able to get him.” Sutton said.

“We got him though, and we did have to chase hard but he is a massive addition to our team.”

At the completion of the 2019 NBL1 Season, Harrington contacted Guers and was encouraged to find out that he was yet to commit to going to Europe to start his professional career. So the Hawks Coach started a long and relentless recruiting campaign to try to secure his signature. The Hawks mentor left no stone unturned.

“I spoke to him every single day, sent him pictures of our beaches, told him about our Club, about our team and how much I think he will love it. I had Mike McCahey in his ear and even another former Hawk star Nate Champion.”

Harrington was nothing if he wasn’t persistent. Clearly he wanted his man and finally he nailed the Langhorne Pennsylvania native down.

“It took a few months but I wore him down. I think he got sick of me hassling him but it was worth it. Tim is a warrior and plays as hard as anyone I have seen, he will be outstanding.”

As for Guers, he can hardly wait to get to Ringwood and start getting a feel for his new team and new environment. The NBL1 is going to provide Guers with a whole bunch of new challengers which is something that he has thrived on his whole life.

“I have done my homework and there are some great players in NBL1 and I can’t wait to test myself against them.” Guers said.

“I know I am going to love the challenge and will provide the Hawks with whatever is needed for the team to be successful.”

Guers is expected to join the Hawks early in the New Year for pre-season training with the new NBL1 regular season starting on the 17th April.
