Many of you will remember a post from early January that covered the early experiences of a couple of Junior Rockets as they enjoyed College life -

“Jessie Goodluck and dear friend Alek Akuen, who played their junior basketball at North Adelaide Rockets, are both students at Independence Community College (Lady Jayhawks), an NJCAA Div 1 College in the Jayhawks Conference, the heartland of Naismith's beloved basketball. Each one has shown the courage of her convictions by following her dream to the other side of the world.”

Well, we have an amazing update on the Girls –

Today, (Thursday) as this goes to print, they are playing in the (Grand) Final of the Region VI NJCAA Conference (Kansas Jayhawks Conference), having just beaten 2nd ranked team Hutchinson 70 to 50 in the semi-final. They were invited to the Tournament having finished 3rd in their own Conference.

Unbelievably the winner of the match will progress to the NATIONAL TOURNAMENT. This really is the stuff dreams are made of - and sometimes movies too.

Both Ladies have had big seasons, with Alek being named Conference Player of the Week twice during this season. She is getting about 30 min a game, and plays in the 5 position. In two games this past week alone Akuen tallied 32 points, 19 rebounds, and five blocked shots !!

As a “freshman” Jessie is getting about 10 to 12 minutes, often runs the point in offense and is a ferocious one-on-one defender.

Both Girls have improved out-of-sight.

There are three pictures ON FACEBOOK.

On behalf of everyone at the Rockets, good luck Girls, maybe we will get to see you on Fox during March Madness!!
