As we celebrated that Lauren Badenoch had now become Mrs Thornett on Saturday and was now on her honeymoon, the starting 5 were: Jo Hill; Kirsty Williams; Shannon Mackay; Opal Mader and Sarah Elsworthy. It was a great first quarter with Kirsty opening the scoring and showing strong defence. So much so, that she had 3 fouls within the first 5 minutes. She had a rest and Shannon Tarran, Courtney Hansen and Georgia Green soon hit the court. Opal was scoring well and despite lots of team fouls, the score was 13 to 21 Rocket’s way at the end of the quarter.

The team played well with fierce defence and soon Sophie Byrne stepped onto the court. North’s pressure was immense and Opal pushed through and at half time the score was 28 to 43. The leading scorers were Opal 12 points and rebounders Opal with 8.

The starting 5 were back on, and it was a slow, messy start. Jo lead by example and scored well. Kirsty was back in the game too and the Rocket’s were determined to win. Rocket’s now had the biggest margin of the game, leading by 20 points at three quarter time.

All the bench players contributed during the fourth quarter and played their roles. Taylor had strong defence and Ana and Zoe ran the plays. Sarah shot a lovely three but Jo was called back in to keep the team calm and focussed. She played amazing defence and the final score was Mavericks 57 to Rockets 79.

The way Top scorers were: Opal 19 pts, Shannon Mckay 15 pts, Sarah 13 pts and Jo with 12 pts. The top rebounder was opal with 11.

See you next Saturday night at Hillcrest when we take on Sturt, 615pm.
