Rockets Women Premier League in Grand Final rematch v Norwood at Mars

The Grand Final rematch was always going to be a great game, we were just hoping for a different result. The match opened slowly with Jo Hill, Shannon Mackay, Lauren Badenoch, Kirsty Williams and Opal Mader. The Rockets pushed hard down the court but Norwood’s height advantage was noticeable and made an impact immediately. Opal opened the scoring and the Rockets fans were excited. Kirsty and the team played good defence but the Flames were leading at quarter time 20 to 10.

Shannon shot a nice three to lift our spirits and Lauren applied good pressure defensively however Norwood had a great quarter and were leading 45 to 22 at the big break.

At half time the turnovers were 6. The leading scorers were: Opal with 11 points and Step Talbot also with 11 points.

The starting 5 started the second half, bringing strong defence, but Norwood played impenetrable man on man defence. Kirsty made a nice steal from Steph Talbot and Sarah, Shannon Tarran and Georgia all contributed well. Norwood continued to dominate with the third quarter score seeing them lead by 31.

After some enthusiastic instruction from the coach, the Rockets played with greater intensity and focus. They were fired up and 2 quick threes got the crowd engaged again. The bench were rotated through with Taylor playing hard and the Rockets demonstrated better teamwork. They won that quarter and some self-respect back, finishing with a loss to the Flames 76 to 53.

Our top scorers were: Shannon Mckay 16 pts and Opal Mader 13 pts.

Our top rebounders were: Jo Hill 8 rebounds and Lauren Badenoch 6 Rebounds

See you all back home again on Friday night 630pm.
