ROUND SEVENTEEN: Eastern Mavericks v North Adelaide Rockets

WOMEN by Kieren Vartuli

The Eastern Mavericks have started their run for the finals off to a brilliant start after blowing out a potential title contender in Sturt.

Behind Tyson-Thomas’ incredible 41-points, the Mavericks put an asterisk next to their name to be labelled a legitimate title contender while the Rockets continue to fight for a finals position dependant on favourable results.  Nonetheless, the Rockets have continued to show up for many games this season despite their younger team.

After having Round 16 off, the Rockets are back in action and will wish to forget about their heartbreaking narrow loss only weeks ago. Unfortunately, they are up against the Mavs on the road and have already fallen to them by 23-points this season. Despite the obvious offensive target in Tyson-Thomas, North will need to contain Kedeisha Kartinyeri who dished off 8-dimes and has the capability to assist even more.

Despite the heart of North Adelaide, the Mavericks have the ability to siphon the tank of the Rockets and get the easy win at home.

Hang Time Prediction: Eastern Mavericks

MEN by Daniel Renfrey

The Mavericks suffered possibly their worst loss of the season in Round 16 when they went down to the Sabres by six points at home. The team only recorded 12 assists and relinquished a huge 20 turnovers in an underwhelming performance. Morris was strong for the side with 28 points and four assists but will need more assistance if his side is to beat a well-rested Rockets team. North Adelaide had a week off in Round 16 and, considering the form they have been in, they’ll be hungry to get back onto the court and taste victory again. McVeigh, Starling and Dowdell, who all have fresh legs after missing a week, will spell a lot of trouble for the Mavericks with their run and their inside presence. If the team can also play strong defence, they will get a solid away win.
