DVBA COVID-19 Update

Good Evening Diamond Valley Members,

Diamond Valley Basketball Association is continuing to be proactive in staying up to date with the most recent developments in COVID-19 plans in Victoria. On March 16, Victoria’s Premier Daniel Andrews declared an unprecedented State of Emergency in Victoria for four weeks in response to the pandemic. The State Government has requested a full closure of all sporting associations where the potential for 500 or more people in one location is possible.  This ban has taken immediate effect through to midnight on April 13, 2020.

It is the DVBA’s priority to act in the best interests of our community. As such we have decided to postpone all DVBA competitions, training sessions and programs until no earlier than April 14. As an affiliated Basketball Victoria member, Diamond Valley Basketball Association will continue to follow their guidance in any decisions moving forward:

  • All junior team trainings (Domestic and Championship) have been suspended until no earlier than Tuesday 14th April. It is not acceptable for team officials to organise what could be perceived as ‘official’ training sessions during this time. We are advising any members who choose to train only do so with one player and one coach per ring.
  • All Senior Domestic games have been postponed until no earlier than Tuesday 14th April.
  • All introductory and development programs have been postponed until no earlier than Tuesday 14th April.
  • VJBL and Big V competitions have been postponed until further notice from Basketball Victoria.

We suggest all members familiarise themselves with Basketball Australia and Basketball Victoria’s recommendations and follow all guidelines given by the State Government. We will keep you notified on updates to your relevant programs as information develops. Basketball Victoria are yet to put a timeline on the return of Big V or VJBL, although we believe they are unlikely to proceed earlier than Friday 17th April due to the current State of Emergency guidelines.

Here at the DVBA we encourage all of our members to keep training from home in order to stay active and healthy! Drills and training techniques that can be done from home will be shared on our NEW website (Coming soon!!), via email and on social media to help all athletes keep up their skills! These training exercises will also cater for our players that may not have access to a basketball ring at home and will include strength and conditioning exercises to help with general fitness.

We understand basketball is a big part of our players and their families lives, however we must all do our part to protect the welfare of our broader community. We encourage our members to stay connected with people and to look after each other during this difficult time. We must all do our part to ensure our return to basketball will be a smooth one.

Comment Guidelines: The SportsTG Network is made up of players, families and passionate sports followers like you who have a strong opinion about sport. That's great - we want you to have your say and share your thoughts with the world. However, we have a few rules that you must follow to keep it fun for all. Please don't be rude, abusive, swear or vilify others. Apart from some pretty serious sport sanctions, we also can ban you and report you if things get out of hand. So play fair and have fun, and thanks for your contribution.
