MATTHEW Walsh and Jonathan Miller will co-coach North Footscray in season 2018.
Walsh stood down from coaching this season, handing over control to Shaun Borlase, who coached solo in 2017.
Borlase steered North Footscray to the Division 2 premiership this season. The Devils defeated the Eagles by 58-points in the Grand Final.
This season was Miller’s first at Hansen Reserve. He had previously played for Glen Orden for three years.
Miller finished fourth in Division 2 Senior Best and Fairest award and was an integral member of their senior premiership victory.
“Jono (Miller) will be co-coach with myself, he will still be playing,” Walsh said.
“Jono (Miller) was interested in coaching the club and with both our family commitments it worked out better for both of us to take the job on together.”
Walsh said he was looking forward to the challenges that new season brings, saying he was excited about developing the clubs juniors.
“The year brings a different challenge for us as we are looking at building a sustainable future for the football club,” he said.
Walsh said he and Miller were now in the process of going through the North Footscray playing list. He says their goal is to retain the list from this year while adding more players aged between 18 and 25.
“The guys will get a good break before getting into it late November,” he said.
“It’s all about building the communication within the group and outlining what the season ahead looks like.
“Training will ramp up after Christmas where we will get more into Game Plan and match specific drills.”
