A WAYWARD Yarraville Seddon Eagles overcame a gutsy Spotswood to further entrench their position in the top two on the Under-19 WRFL ladder with a 25-point victory.
The Woodsmen would regret not capitalising on a strong first half which proved costly as they couldn't apply pressure on the scoreboard.
The opening minutes were filled with both sides applying huge pressure at contests all over the ground. Spotswood got on the board with a snap from James Waters before a brilliant dribble goal at the 17 minute mark by Alexander Kenyi from a stoppage saw them up by 12-points at quarter time.
Yarraville opened their account at the fifth minute mark of the second quarter thanks to Blake Green before Michael Tsaloukis made it two in a minute. A Thomas Barnes major re-established a 5 point lead for Spotswood going into half-time.
The Eagles looked a different unit after the break as they broke the shackles to find space much easier, controlling the tempo and clearances of the game allowing them to pepper the goals; although inaccurately.
Despite their dominance the margin was only 15-points at three quarter time in their favour.
In the fourth term Yarraville continued to spray shots on goal allowing Spotswood's James Waters second goal to keep things interesting as they trailed by 16-points but a 50 metre penalty and goal to Lachlan Huell sealed the win for Yarraville.
Eagles full back Jordan Robinson was a standout cutting off numerous entries inside 50, Benjamin Wagland kicked three goals and Blake Green put in a four quarter performance. For Spotswood, Elliot Rosado was strong down back taking plenty of intercept marks whilst Darcy Wilson and Jordan Davis tried hard all game.
The remaining round results saw Altona stay undefeated with a 127-point win over the Wyndham Suns 19.20. (134) to 1.1. (7).
St Albans defeated Albanvale 31.13. (199) to 4.4. (28) whilst Werribee Districts crushed Wyndhamvale 23.29. (167) to 2.1. (13).
Albion won a thriller against Caroline Springs 10.12. (72) to 10.9. (69) and Newport Power forfeited against Hoppers Crossing.
Round 10 will see Albanvale host Albion, Hoppers Crossing will take on Spotswood and a top of the table clash between Yarraville and Altona looms as match of the round.
Werribee Districts will verse Newport, Caroline Springs take on Wyndhamvale and St Albans will oppose the Wyndham Suns.
