U12 Girls Mark Milestone in AFL Northern Rivers History Books

Not only was Sunday Mother’s day, but it also marked a significant milestone in the history books of AFL Northern Rivers Juniors.

The Tweed Coast Tigers were able to host the first ever round of the U12 Girls Competition at Round Mountain Oval, Pottsville.

This is the first time AFLNRJ have implemented an all-girls competition with round one seeing 40 excited girls from 4 Clubs showing off their skills and knowledge of the game.

“It was fabulous to see a lot of hard work by the Northern Rivers AFL community had paid off with so many Girls signing up to play Club Football. Sunday was a fantastic spectacle, only scraping the surface of what’s to come in terms of Girls Football on the Northern Rivers” said AFLNRJ Administrator Molly Kenwood.

“The modified rules allow for the different elements of the game to be progressively introduced to the girls at a level appropriate to their needs and development.”

To top off the morning, AFLNRJ provided all girls with a rose to give to their mothers after the game as a token of love and appreciation on Mother’s day.

All of the U12 Girls are back at Club training this week in preparation for round two at Mortimer Oval, Lismore this coming Sunday at 9:30am.

For any Girls aged 10-12 wanting to join in the fun, please contact aflnrj@gmail.com for further details. To view more pictures, check out the AFL Northern Rivers Juniors facebook page.
