Sharon Kwarula will be PNG’s representative at the IAAF World Indoor Championships in Athletics which will be held in the Polish City of Sopot this weekend. Kwarula who is a student at West Texas A&M University will compete in the 60m hurdles event and will be up against the best in the world including Olympic Champion Sally Pearson of Australia .It’s going to be tough competition for Sharon , said Athletics PNG President Tony Green. Running the hurdles indoors is not like running the 100m at an outdoor world championship where you will see athletes with a wide range of abilities from lots of small nations as well as the powerhouse nations such as USA. There will only be high quality athletes in this event, but Sharon is well prepared, having run six races indoors this season and improved her time from 8.90 last year to a best of 8.68 this season. It will be Kwarula’s second world indoor championships, having competed in Istanbul in 2012.
